Geez, okay, this guy is tricky! At first I was thinking it might be a star, but then there is only one graded that is a star for MS-65, and I don't think it is quite that high. Hate to seem like I'm going with the crowd, but I'm going to have to say MS-64 B is really the only thing left, went through the list. Thanks for the contest man. :thumb:

Ok, first here's the rest of the scan: It gives you what NGC graded this coin. Unfortunately, as far as red goes, it IS Red, but once someone mentioned Red and Brown, I am afraid that most every guess after that point went that way. The guesses ranged from AU-55 to MS-69 RD and I hope we all had fun and even learned something.

The correct answers belonged to: Monkeyman, Dan8402, Hamman88 and Topher.

A few I felt deserved an honorable mention are:

Cody: Nice job especially for a YN. Consistent grading. Even in the face of so many other guesses. Cody stuck to what he thought was right and his guesses were the least variant of anyone's... well, up until the AU-55 guess.

Indianhead and RLMsCents: Also extremely consistent, but Cody got top bill because he is a YN. You two have more experience.

Bonedigger: Was the first to think of the Matte proof possibility. Wrong, but great outside of the box thinking!

I will enter all 4 of these names into a hat and pick a winner sometime today. If you are the winner I will PM you for your address.

the greysheet is less than $90. I don't have a current one, but the old one I have says ask - $75, bid - $82. I remember purchasing this one for $50.

Nice contest, but-I would NEVER have said 65, not with those two wacks on the reverse.
    Congrats to all.

    Frank:

It may not be apparent without the coin in hand, but they do not seem to be contact marks. There are no corresponding dings in the fields adjacent to the marks, they appear to be confined to the raised parts of the coin. Since those parts of the coin are concave in the die, they are not likely to be on the die either, so they may just be incomplete strike, grease or debris in the die, or something else I am not certain. I do not claim to know enough to make a declaration. Also something to note is that Lincolns typically have more grading emphasis put on the obverse. Like I originally said at the top of the thread, I believe it is graded correctly, but we all know that grading is subjective.

Wow, great contest Mike. Thanks for the fun. Very nice coin, but I think it might be overgraded a tad, but that is only my opinion, and grading is a matter of opinion. Don't dare send that baby in to be regraded though. :D But I don't know what that coin is like in hand, so really can't judge a book by it's cover I guess. :D But overall, this was a nice contest, that's a nice coin, and I had fun participating in it. :thumb:
