Why do people say not to buy coins sent from Cyprus? I've seen a lot of bad looking forgeries shipping out of Bulgaria on eBay, but haven't had issues with Cyprus sent coins...yet. Can anyone shed some light on this for me please?

I am not sure about sending to Cyprus, but FROM Cyprus a major issue. The US has a ban of ancient coins from that country.

I avoid any coins from Cyprus. The antiquities laws are strict plus, and just as important, many fakes originate there just like in Bulgaria.

I almost never buy anything from overseas even if it has good paperwork so I am probably the wrong guy to ask.

All I meant was I have never heard of people specifically avoiding Cyprus.

Lots of fakes out of there and good luck getting anything back there if you have a return.

Cyprus is an absolute nogo for me. I don't care how good the coin looks.

Too many very clever fakes out there, and it's getting worse.

This is the point from my standpoint. I have a certain amount of money with which to buy coins. Dealers in my country have many times more coins I would like than I have money. I buy from other countries when the item is something I really want and have not found locally. When going to overseas sources, countries with no problems regarding legality, returns, safety still can supply my needs many times over. The need to buy anything from countries who do not fit this description just does not come up at my level of collecting.
