    1968 US Dime

    $45 BIN.

It's a 1968-P Roosevelt dime in an ANACS holder -- EF 40 DETAILS, scratched.

So, you know what this means: we can brace ourselves for a round of new posters bragging about their "no-mint-mark 1968 dime", which they know is valuable, because even scratched ones are $45 on eBay!

I'd be keen to know the thought process behind that submission...

I seriously doubt that much thought was involved at all.

Possibly one of our former 1 thread posters who thought we were all in denial and jealous of their find.

Because that will totally stop the trolls who actually cause us ongoing irritation, without blocking honest information-seekers.

I'm a lot happier dealing with a steady stream of clueless newbies than a closed community of knowier-than-thou's.

Not all of them are trolls. Truly, there are those people who exist with nothing between their ears.

Either poor grading skills or a throw in coin to make the minimum number for one of their specials

Same seller has two other "no mint mark error coins". At least these other coins straight-graded:

    1968 Quarter

    1975 Dime

Hopefully any prospective Buyer does their due diligence: For the newbies, these coins are made at the Philly Mint -- and the mint mark is intentionally omitted.

Not hard to understand. How many posts have we had here from people that think they have a rare no S 68 dime, 75 dime, 1990 cent? How many don't bother coming here first? How many have we had that refused to believe us when we tell them they have a common Philly business strike?

Those are the people that go ahead and send them in and await their riches.

I agree. Those that don't have the patience to interact with the newbies, should simply refrain from replying to those threads.

Same seller has some other unfortunate decisions up for sale as well. Best we can do is help educate people before they buy. I saw a horrible snake oil 1964 Morgan Dollar commercial on TV today, laughable. On a major cable news network though, and commercial time ain't cheap. Believe me, they're making money. Infuriating, but they dance on the legality of an implied fairy tale and a lot of people believe it.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I sometimes wonder what the reaction is in the grading room when these sorts of things.

"Hey guys! Some idiot emptied his pocket change into the submission box again!"
