I found one in my change today, which was weird enough. But it's mintmark appears to be a "P". I have never seen this mint mark before, what does it mean?
iit means it was minted in philedelphia and if you live in the west, it is very rare to find one in your change! monkeyman
Washington Dollars (and all of the dollar coins thus far) have been minted at both Denver (D) and Philadelphia (P).
You haven't seen a P mintmark before? They have been using them on all of the Philly coins other than the cent for 27 years now. Even if you lived in Hawaii or Alaska which are about as far from Philadelphia as you can get and still be in the US, I would think that if you went through your pocket change you would find at least a few P mint coins.
Why is that, I live in Florida and D mint coins are just as common. But it was be becuase I live in a tourism town.
I don't know. I'm in CA and I'm lucky if I see a P mintmark on any coin in one out of 100 coins I get in change...and even thats an optomistic number. I think the reason is people usually don't travel with a bunch of change. At least when I travel, I like to use plastic for it's convenience. I don't pack a bag of change. Guy~
I had all of these sarcastic comments ready to post about Canadians not knowing about 'real money' from the states. Then I realized what he could say about our dollar's value vs theirs, so, I think that I'll just shut up, until their funny money decreases in value once again.
