I could be wrong but how can a die chip be in exactly the same place on 2 different coins? I would think this is something other than a die chip.
By two different coins do you mean two different dates or mintmarks? If they are the same date and mintmark they could have been produced by the same die. Depending on when the chip was was discovered and the die was changed there could be thousands and thousands of cents with the same “problem”.
Like @Jersey magic man said, there could have been thousands of coins struck after the damage to the die occurred. For example, I have eleven 2007-P Sac dollars with the same die gouge at the juncture of the neck and jaw. These came from a bag that I ordered from the US Mint. FWIW, what makes your coin interesting is the fact that both of the posts that form the loops of the "B" broke off. Normally, you might only see one of the loops filled with a die chip. For that reason, it would be nice to keep this coin as an unusual conversation piece. Chris
I saw nothing in the response that was eddiespin being a jerk. Actually, you were the one acting that way. Your response leads me to believe you don't know what a die chip is.
You and Eddie are jerks. If everyone was an expert there is no need to ask questions. I thought the forum was for the more experienced to help others learn about coin collecting. Apparently it is a jerk circle.
Commonly known as a filled B these have been also hit ever so to displace the metal just so to look just like a D. I LOVE THESE COINS. Nice examples of a minor error coin they both are. I’ve been doing Lincolns only for 45 years and I don’t have as nice of a filled b example as those. And yes a filled letter is because of a die break not a die chip I do believe. There not jerks just jealous. Remember it’s hard to find cool stuff if your not looking.
Well you asked a question and it was answered. THEN you said how can it be die chips on two different coins. That showed you don't understand the minting process. Instead of getting angry and calling names, I suggest do some research and find out why. Most everyone here will do the research instead of being lazy and asking every question to be answered here. ALL he said was you didn't understand what a die chip was. There was no animosity sent your way, yet you got angry over nothing. It's always important to understand that you can't always understand the context of the written word. You chose to read negative into what he wrote.
How many of these threads with new members turn into this? 1/10 2/10? Around there most likely, people need to understand FACTS MATTER MORE THEN FEELINGS! He was giving you an honest answer not being rude, also it's a simple die chip nothing else... only if people could accept the truth. Thanks, Jacob
Whoa fellas I’m not feeling the love here. Remember this is a hobby it’s suppose to be fun. That’s just my lowly newb to the web site opinion. Don’t forget I’m new here so feel free to post plenty of crap that might make me not want to come back thanks. And those are the FACTS.
He was not giving ME an honest answer or he would have been talking TO me. He was talking ABOUT me to the group, trolling for other wanna-be-know-it-all jerks to join in and he found at least one other. For those of you above the age of 15 and not living in mommy's basement; when you talk ABOUT someone instead of TO someone that is bad. If he would have said something like "it appears you don't know what a die chip is; here is an example or link" like so many others have done that would have been different and acceptable. I admit I am no expert and with a lot of patient answers and instruction from others on this site I have learned quite a bit and I am still learning. So thank you to those mature adults who have been and are helping others learn this complicated hobby.
It appears that you don't know what a Die Chip is.. Short answer. It's a small break on the Die, usually on the incused part of the Die. In this case the letter B in LIBERTY. So as explained, if the Die Chip occurs and strikes many Blank Planchets you will see this many times Peace
You won't learn anything if you don't stop with the insults. You got an honest and correct answer from the start.
Yea I hate short answers also and am guilty of the same some times. But their facts are 100% We have to be patient with the impatience of others. So next time someone short answers a question be a little less pointed with the response and ask them for more info or to stay out of your thread. NICELY. Just my thoughts, no proof, no training, from a newb to the site.
