1965 Silver Dime?? MS66!!!

Thank you for your input and yes I want to take it out very badly but I'm worried if it actually is real then I will mess it up some how as for I do not have another case of any kind to replace it in. Also if it doesn't show any copper wouldn't that still be an error or a special coin? Since all coins mostly show copper when they are copper/nickel clad?

Well thats kinda silly.

As an SP66, the coin has a maximum value of $11. If it were 90% silver (which it isn't) it would be worth a grand or more so, you logic is definitely lacking.

As it sits, it's just an $11 coin as virtually NOBODY, No Grading company nor any expert in the field will make a determination on a coin without cracking it out first since it is literally impossible.

I already know the price of the coin but it still doesn't change the fact the edges are silver and the ridges on the coin in the front don't have a seem on the obverse side of the edge.

 

Yeah I will wait for someone that knows what they are doing to check it cause I don't have the resources to replace the case or protection it has at the moment and I'm perfectly fine on waiting. Until then I wanted to know what everyone thought and most have been optimistic and some seem envious. Whatever the case may be thank you all for your opinions most find it too good to be true and in my case it probably is but I do live in the poorest white town in America and yes I think it is a stupid label but this would be a blessing g for my family and especially my daughter but when I do find out I will follow up with everyone on the outcome. Thanks again.

 

Yeah, it seems that PCGS has a tendency to change the designations on a whim. For example, my avatar is a 1998-S Kennedy with a satin finish. I have two of them, and they are graded by PCGS, MS69. Some years later, PCGS changed their grading designation to "SP" and now they grade all new submissions of this special issue Kennedy as such. I have no desire to resubmit mine for the new designation. I like to keep them as a reminder that PCGS can be a bit fickle.

I found out because I had bought one labeled MS but it was a satin finish issue so PCGS had it in the database as SP. I wanted to make sure what was going on so I called them. They said it was no problem the slabs are out there as MS. Because it simply says the slabs were done before they changed over, which I think was around 2009.

Which means probably you should worry if you have a slab for a post 2009 coin in a slab and it is mislabeled.

 

I am not sure of the accuracy of XRF spectrometry through plastic, but maybe a large bullion store might be using to analyze metals in the original plastic to detect counterfeit bars or coins.

 

I have Eisenhower Dollars that look exactly the same way and I know for a fact that they are not silver.

I have a 1999 Roosy that also looks exactly like that and I know for a fact that its not silver.

There's really nothing to be envious of and I can see now why you're fishing around various Coin Forums as the previous one probably told you exactly what you've read here.

But envious?

I'm envious of folks that have real treasures such as Sacagawea Mules, or 1995-W Proof Silver Eagles or maybe even the 1913 Liberty Nickels.
But I am never envious of folks that simply will NOT listen to reason nor will they back down on their 1965 Silver Whatever's or their Silver Lincoln Cents.
Nor am I envious of the constant flow of incredible excuses as to why they cannot nor WILL NOT get these supposed treasures validated by reputable sources!

Have fun Dreaming but when you find out that your dream was exactly that, then please let everybody know.

 

Despite the fact that both of my 1998-S Kennedy half dollars are graded MS69, and I know that PCGS changed their grading to SP for these coins, it makes no "nevermind" to me.

So your saying you care nothing about finding a possible 1965 silver dime? And if you haven't noticed I don't care what you in particular actually care about so go find another forum post to go harass you say you don't care but your one of the main posters.

 

Have you even touched a 5$ dollar gold piece? Like a half eagle? Cause i just sold one.....and thats not even that rare.... but still rare enough to buy you a few things......

Wow, that's just rude. I think nearly everyone here would care a lot about one being found in this way, because it would make finding others in SMS sets actually something that could happen...in other words, it would say they exist from those sets. Right now, I am thinking that Philly was the only mint they thought might have produced them, not Denver or SF. And didn't all the SMS ones come from SF?

I have not really followed this possibility because of the out of this world type chance of me ever encountering one, so I am not sure if they have any indication SMS ones could have a silver planchet.
