I know it's staged but I still like the show and all the rare things that come in. Especially the rare old coins and guns.

You got to remember folks Pawn shop owners make their living buying stuff from needy people at about 20% I would imagine. Their kinda slimy IMO. But I realize some would call it good business but I don’t.

Did anyone ever used to watch Dave Attell's Insomniac (aka 'Up All Night with Dave Attell')? There was an episode where he was in Vegas, and stopped by Rick's pawn shop at like 2 am. It was a run of the mill, low-end looking pawn shop, with Rick by himself, working at a window with bars on it. Sort of like what you'd expect Rick having Chumlee do now.

My guess is that the History channel was looking to do a "Pawn Stars" series, found the Harrisons to be TV-worthy, fixed up their shop for them, and the rest is, as they say, history.

Seriously, anybody who provided half the gene pool for Chumlee, I mean, how evolved can a guy like that be????

When all of us were "back on the farm", they did offer to share. They'd bring half-eaten squirrels up on the porch and leave them on the WELCOME mat.

I met the “beard of knowledge” at a coin show in Vegas a while back. One hell of a nice guy and VERY knowledgeable.

The dollar was a dog but the double eagle was a beaut!

Those dollars must have really gone up since I messed around with them. I have had a couple and like that one, they had been cleaned and abused.

I think the one's that I have had were the most common and that was one of the rare dates/ die alignments.

It's my dream coin and I have it embossed on my business cards and letterheads.

I've heard that a majority of pawn shop business is actually from short term loans. The sales portion of the shop tends to be the result of defaulted loans more often than people selling off items at bottom end prices.

Yes, this is particularly true in my state, Pennsylvania. Pawn shops are regulated by the state BANKING Department. Nevada, however, is the "wild west", figuratively AND literally.

I heared this on a descovery channel show once. Back in the day Pawn shops were the primary way to get loans for the average person. Banks just wouldn’t loan money for the most part to commoners. That changed about a 125 years ago into what we have today

Can you blame them? After all, what would you think if someone shoved a bowl of that stuff under your nose...

Now Kurt be nice and don’t use any two or more syllable words poor Chum won’t be able to follow your teachings. ChumLee is the Harrison’s pet. He’s been with them as a friend of Big Stupids, oh sorry Big Hoss’ for years. There gonna carry that big lump of flesh his whole life. Chum better hope Big Stupid doesn’t die first or he’s trailer park bound.

You know he does have moments during the show when you can tell a couple of those brain cells are still pointed at each other and still fire correctly. Stoners usually are nice people they are stoned thats what makes them nice. And he’s been around the shop for years something HAD to sink in over the years stoned or not.
Nice guy or not I have no use for teet latchers. If you can’t figure out what I mean I mean people whom ride the coat tails of other. The Guy would be and have NOTHING with out the Harrisons.

I know this is, at times, a staged show but Rick is such a scab.

My wife's parents lived in Henderson. We went into Vegas one day and my father-in-law suggested we stop by the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop. I couldn't believe, first, the prices on the items in the display cases and second, the small size of the shop. Don't expect to have Rick, "Big Hoss", or Chum wait on you, they have a full staff.
