I was very happy when the mailman showed up today. Alexander III of Macedon “The Great” drachm 4.1 g 17 mm Milteos mint Ref: Price 2090
Very nice drachm!.. i've got a couple, but i have come to doubt if mine are all of Alexander. i won't hijack your thread with big pics either
Cool drachm!!! Everyone should have at least one silver coin of Alexander, lifetime or posthumous!!! I have several bronzes and two in silver---a budget drachm and a higher grade Tet:
Congrats on the cool drachm @Yankee42 These drachms of Alexander and the diadochi were my gateway drug to ancient coins. The one below is a posthumous drachm from Magnesia mint c. 323-319 BC

Nice coin! Here's as close as I've got to an Alexander III drachm: Kings of Macedon, Antigonos I Monophthalmos, Drachm As Strategos of Asia, 320-306/5 BC, or king, 306/5-301 BC. Struck circa 318-301 BC. Magnesia ad Maeandrum mint Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin. Reverse: Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; monogram in left field and below throne. References: Price 1970 Size: 17mm Weight: 4.17g
The O is a lifetime issue, according to Price - ca. 325-323 B.C. jb_depew, your coin is still considered an Alexander the Great drachm even though it was issued after his death by Antigones I. The reverse inscription is Alexander's name in Greek, or more correctly, "of Alexander"
I think all these coins, no matter the size are beautiful coins.
