I have a bit of a weakness for buying large group lots, but this next pic is not of one of them. It's instead a group pic of accumulated purchases representing my somewhat out-of-control buying over the course of October and November... these things happen, right? Anyway, I just got back home yesterday after having been out of town for a few weeks, and naturally couldn't wait to get at the little stack of coin-filled envelopes that had been delivered while I was away. They did not disappoint! And, since I love pics of coin piles, I thought I'd let my new guys cosy up and shoot some pics of them getting to know one another... There are a total of 46 coins in the pile, and a number of them probably deserve their own threads. These purchases have really taken my coin budget for the rest of the year (and beyond) into the severely negative range, so I guess I'll just be spending the next few weeks ooh-ing and aah-ing over this group, and hopefully also do a little research and take some proper pics of them. Actually, I do have a few more coins presently in transit, but I have plenty on my plate as it is .
It's good to have you here on the boards @zumbly : when things go wrong (i.e. buying myself waaaaay too many coins) I'll be able to indulge thinking "well, "Z" did even worse !" Looks like a terrific group of coins BTW Q
Wow! And I thought I had been on a buying spree! Those look like great additions to your collection. I hope you'll be photographing and posting them individually over the next several weeks.
Thanks! The A-Pi is a Tyche reclining (ex stevex6 Collection) and the Domna is a MATER DEVM with a lovely Cybele enthroned reverse. Yup, I plan on doing so!
Haha, sure, if you want to, though I don't know that they're arranged to make it either easy or hard, or that the coins even lend themselves to it!
Very nice lot! May I ask which one is that to the very right-middle with what looks like a stone type club? Thanks, Jacob
Thanks, Jacob... that big ol' club of Hercules is something, isn't it? The coin is a didrachm of Nerva from Cappadocia. I don't have my own picture of it yet, but it's one of Steve's and here's his old pic and description... Nerva AR Didrachm CAPPADOCIA, Caesaraea-Eusebia AD 96-98 Struck AD 98 Diameter: 20 x 22 mm Weight: 6.64 grams Obverse: Laureate head right Reverse: Club set on ground; date in legend Reference: Metcalf, Caesarea 45; Sydenham, Caesarea 153
It was an honest typo. On TIF's website there is a comment under the "story of my infection" that touches on how " every girl should have a Pegasus" that I read sometime ago.
That's a sexy looking group of coins! Man I want to touch that big ol' AP drachm! And look at that sweet galley! And MFB! And what's that thing right of the virtus reverse?
