It has been very difficult for me to keep all the Roman ladies on coins straight, I keep getting mixed up on who was the mother /wife of who. I made this little quiz to help me practice a bit. I used the ERIC II rarity list and picked the 10 most common women on it. I put in a pic of the coin, but didn't include her name, you can figure it out from the legend. That's part of the game! All the coins are imperial, so no Greek to mess anyone up. You'll have to associate them with the some of the men in their life. If ancient coins or ancient history is your field, this isn't going to be a challenge. If you are brand spanking new to ancients, this will probably be pretty hard. I made it for the low end intermediate type (ME!). If you miss some, don't feel bad. The first time I took my own quiz, I missed one! LOL! I"m still having trouble keeping these chicks straight! I used pics that some of you posted on the forum, if you would rather I didn't use a pic of your coin, just let me know and I"ll remove it. If you see any mistakes, let me know and I"ll fix! Post your score if you want, I got 900! LOL!!!! Here is the quiz, have fun! http://quizrevolution.com/ch/a258040
Woohoo! I got 800/1000. My only misses were on the wives/mothers of third-century military emperors, and that's an era of history and numismatics that I haven't studied very much.
Yeah, tried to set that up with multiple correct answers, then forgot to remove one when I figured out I couldn't. Question replaced all together.
I got 500/1000. Which is probably terrific since I actually knew none of them and simply hit an answer blindly on each.
I got 700 but it was mostly luck since I didn't really know any of them. My strategy on some was to look at the characteristics of the coin (style and flan) and match to an emperor that was similar.
400 / 1000 for me, the only consolation being I knew the 4 answers, anything more than 4 would have been a lucky guess. Nice quiz thank you.
What a neat idea to make a game out of remembering all of the female historical figures of the Roman Empire. Good job @chrsmat71! I only got 800 out of 1000 I get turned around when it comes to keeping the Constantine clan straight. Geez Constantine not everything has to be named after you! I'm surprised he didn't rename his wife Constantina!
Glad you all had fun, it was fun to make. If you didn't get a 10 out of 10, don't feel bad, remember I didn't either! On my own quiz! I have hard time keeping Her. Etrusc. and Otac. Sev. apart. But it kind of paid off, I was at a coin show today and saw a coin of Otacilia Severa, and discussed her with the guy selling the coin...I remembered who she was (I even corrected him about who's wife she was)! I should have put the answers in as well, but I was kind of rushed. Thanks to @dougsmit and @Roman Collector for correcting my mistakes. Thanks to several of you for letting my use your coin pics! If there are any you want the answers to you can't figure out, let me know. I'll try and post an answer key tomorrow.
