Continue with same theme, or something that has not been posted here previously.

Kinda overlooked humanoid... no matter. :)

Here's a mermaid, forgot I had a picture of it (and will make a good partner for the one coming in the mail).

Winged Victories (i.e., angels, in later Christian iconography) would probably count as mythical humanoid creatures.

In fact, that seems as good a theme as any to continue with.

    Let's do angels & cherubs.

This animal looks kind of mythical to me, Griffin? Zink wartime coinage. 1944 NOR 25 o obv.JPG 1944 NOR 25 o rev.JPG

It's a lion. In a rather mythical pose, to be sure (since lions are not usually known to walk around on their hind legs, wearing crowns and wielding axes), but not a mythical creature.

Anyway, it's not an angel or a cherub. ;)

PS- you should post that Norwegian lion here.

That's a pretty nice example for a WW2 zinc issue. They're usually darker and more oxidized.

Plus the one from a few posts above (won't repeat it). I'll look through my un-uploaded images and see if there are more.

This is listed in The Standard Catalog as having an angel. Looks more like a soldier to me.

Even such a nice lady, errm, medal would not be motivation enough for me to participate. :) Not sure about that Traversée in Liège, but in neighboring Huy, they do that in February - swim from one bank of the Meuse river to the other.

It took me a while to realize that I do have coins with winged humanoids on them. The guy on the reverse of this one is called a "Garuda", which is a Royal emblem here in Thailand. 2517 Thai 1 b obv.JPG 2517 Thai 1 b rev.JPG

    Ooh I have one too.

    A winged humanoid. 1990France.jpg
This coin has a dolphin privy mark on the reverse next to the date. So let's make this the next theme.

The caduceus (Hermes/Mercury staff) is actually the mintmark of the Royal Dutch Mint in Utrecht. That one you will find on every Dutch coin made in the last 200 years or so. The other sign is that of the "muntmeester" and will change whenever there is a new mint director. The seahorse was used by Dr. C. Hoitsema (1909-1933), the sword on the other 2½ gulden coin refers to H. A. van den Wall Bake (1846-1874) ...
