Some of these are weak in the head. That didn't come out right. The hair doesn't always strike up that well. There I got it. Anyway, you're right about that.
Then it of course would depend on the TPG. PCGS - 65 NGC - 64 Ed Wood Grading Service - MS70 w/ an Ed Wood Bean (I can't find the image of the bean, if you can, post it!) ****This is a light-hearted post, and no offense to @Pickin and Grinin and his Washington****
I'm not surprised, Washington's are notoriously hard to grade in hand...let alone in a photo...with a ton of toning.
Agreed, I usually buy Washington's raw, the slab doesn't help either, this one will probably get cracked out and put in the dansco.
Yeah, the strike is a little mushy, but over all a nice looking quarter! I wish I could have captured the rusty reds that are present through out the obv. it brightens the coin up some.
No one hit the grade it was given, unless you throw an outside chance in the mix. @Beefer518 @CamaroDMD was within a grade, The high points that you called out in the photo are full of lustre, and have to be an artifact of the photo, there is absolutely no wear on this coin. I see no reason for this coin to be in an AU slab, therefore it might be cracked out for the Dansco.
Looking again more closely, I agree with AU-58 as there is a little rub. I guess I should stop assuming that GTG common high-grade certified modern coins are always MS.
I am having a hard time seeing it in hand, the weak strike has me puzzled a little, maybe a crack out would help.
ANACS seems to, at times, get AU-58 happy. I'd probably crack it out and send it to either PCGS or NGC.
I think they do and I honestly believe they have on this coin. Not by a lot. I don’t think pcgs or ngc will give a better grade.
I have noticed that they tend to under grade, I have been told that a few dealers here locally are bringing pretty good returns buying anacs and having them sent to the big 2. Right now I am happy where it is.
