    Here's one I don't think I've posted before. 'Liberation of Gent' with symbolism for the allied forces. In addition to the horses, eagle, bison, maple leaf, unicorn, and even a bat (on the reverse), there is indeed a lion on the shield.

    Yeah, they have smooshed faces from circulation. I just came across that one today when looking for another coin. A bit like the lion in post #13. Perhaps a bit of French influence on both.

    This teeny-tiny silver obol from Miletos (or Miletus) in Ionia was 26 bucks well spent. I spent more on the slabbing fees than on the coin itself!

    It's also one of the earliest coins I've owned.

    Here's a Persian civic copper dated 1115 AH (=1703/4 AD), most likely from Isfahan, featuring a lion and a sun-face:
