Swindlers might be an overstatement, but he was basically screwed out of his home twice. http://www.firstam.com/content.cfm?id=4924
That's true, and to them I say try picking up a history book and actually learning something of value. It's like the old saying "those who don't know history...." It's kind of scary who kids idolize today and where they get their set of values from. I know this isn't the forum for this but this is not just an American phenomenon. I just saw a documentary on survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In the doc. they interviewed high school aged kids in Japan and asked them what had occurred in their country in 1945, although probably edited to prove a point, none of them knew about the bombs dropped and the devastation that occurred. Although coins are not minted to educate people on historical people or events (like some say the Presidential dollars are supposed to do) they are a looking glass into the past that tell a story of the history of our nation. Lincoln is an historical icon and should be portayed as such on the new coins of 2009. But that's just my two cents, grade them however you want...no pun intended! : )
Im giving away a roll of the "Haloween candy" Pres dollars to the local kiddies tonight. I think that is better than giving them candy! Probably have the house TP'd by morning!
I like the wheat back but the point of the 2009 cent is commemerate Lincoln and the wheat back has nothing to do with Lincoln. Having said that I think these designs will be tough to translate onto a small coin. As for Brenner rolling in his grave, the obverse of the coins will have Brenners origional Lincoln in its origional relief.
The wheat design was plain and not very imaginative. I like the memorial design much better. But, it is a small canvas. Not much you can do with it. Why is it that so many people want to rehash old designs on our coins? Let the old designs stay where they are on the original coins.
Amen brother! Bring back the wheat reverse. I find the proposed designs shown earlier in this thread repugnant - they look like play money.
Maybe put some "stuff" on the new coins' edge....like the Presidental Dollars? Date, Mint Mark, Birth Place, In GOD We Trust, etc.??? swick
