2 nickels in the reject of the water vending machine, a cent on the floor next to the self checkout and a Ghana coin on the floor next to the coinstar.
A sort of exciting day at the coinstar machine - I found a newish Canadian coin, but also a 1943 steel cent and a 1941 cent. Steel cent has some rust spots, but still a neat find.
Found in the "coinstar" at the bank this morning, an Australian 2006 10-cent (generic image from wikipedia)
A couple coinstars gave up the following a couple days ago... 1.32 Canadian 1 Mexico peso 1.09 Euro and .54 US
It seems to be a 1 yen Japanese aluminum coin. Will try to date it. Good site. http://portlandcoins.blogspot.com/2012/11/reading-japanese-numbers-and-dates.html But still not easy to date. I am sure it's modern. I was just curious on the date.
Great find! It always amazes me that people don't check that return. I think it even tells you to do it before it prints your ticket out. The one at my credit union tells you to check. I guess they can't be bothered....... Ohh well. We'll take them, right?
Haha yea there was a really interesting story to it, you can read it here- https://www.cointalk.com/threads/coinstar-and-interesting-story.305713/ Thanks, Jacob
A dime in the slot yesterday, and 20 cents on the grill today. Secrets exposed after the photo. Secret #1 Don't just check the slot. I find a lot of coins on the grill. Usually in the inside left hand corner which is not visible. The dimes are often camouflaged by the gray color of the grill. Secret #2 Sometimes there is money stuck in the slot at the end of the grill before it gets dumped into the machine. Usually, I can key those out. The key fits snuggly on the rim of the coin and you pop it back towards you. Secret #3 Sometimes you can't get those stuck coins out. Just turn on the machine, lift the grill, dump them into the belly of the beast and get a receipt. Either cash it out at customer service or if you are spending money in the store anyway, give it to the cashier after your purchase.
I know those secrets Coinstar today: 2 - 5 euro cent 12 cents canadian 1 - 5 pence 3 cents us 2 quarters us, one is silver
Went by one branch to dump mixed coins (no halves) and the Tech was working on the Cummins Allison Coin Machine, so got a picture of the inside (note plastic internal reject cup in foreground). He said the machine uses an optical laser to read each coin. I gave the Branch Manager an AU Bi-Centennial Kennedy in a plastic case because she lets me buy the half coin bag off the machine. I asked if there was an internal reject cup and she said yes, and showed me a handful of bent modern clad coins plus this 1940 Wheatie which she gave me. Kind of beat up, but free!
