Far AM has FG initials close to the steps. Close AM has FG initials far from the steps. Ironic, ain't it?

I always thought the correct terminology was WAM (wide) and CAM (close). Did something change?

 

Precisely why I try to avoid such acronyms, ESPECIALLY when there's insufficient history behind them to make them universally accepted. When something hits the "Red Book", then I'll feel comfortable using it.

 

Besides, in numismatics, WAM is too close to VAM which is a whole different thing having to do with silver dollars, not cents. And where I work, WAM means something COMPLETELY unique - "Walking Around Money".
