Please forgive me if these are stupid questions! 1. Why is he selling his coins? He's unlikely to get what they're worth! 2. Does he need the money for medical bills? 3. Isn't medical care covered by the government of Canada. 4. Wouldn't his collection provide him an uplifting diversion from his battle with cancer? I'd ask him myself if I could contact him directly.
I can't answer your questions, but not long after he parted ways with CT he said he felt like selling off his collection.
Steve O' you rock, my friend From personnal and professionnal observations, the one thing I can tell you is : If you're absolutely positive that you'll kick that fricken cancer out Victory is on your side, but should you ever loose hope in recovery, you're done. I am pleased to announce that, as of today, I am the proud temporary custodian of Steve's Zombie Jesus! (I always loved this coin!)
I just caught this thread and I'm so sorry to hear that my favorite coin-bro is going through so much..... I miss you Steve.....You and your family are constantly in my thoughts!!
I can, perhaps, shed a little bit of light on this one. Medical care is covered in Canada but Steve lives in a more remote area and may require the money for travel costs or even to facilitate a potential move. I can't say for certain since I haven't talked to Steve but that could be one of the causes.
I just looked through some of his coins for sale, and was thinking of buying one, then I saw the big red words saying they do not ship to the country where I live. So I guess I can forget about helping out your old friend Steve.
i don't know the reason for him not shipping there, other than maybe past bad experiences or mistrust in the mail for that country..idk...
The US has reciprical trade agreements, so we have no customs between countries (cool, I imported many goods with no duties.) However, I do not think Canada shares these same agreements. Perhaps that creates some complications... By the way, I received my Trajan/Rhino Dichalkon Friday. Ordered from a Canada provider, shipped to a USA buyer within 5 days. Pretty good. Usually, it is a longer shipping/customs timeline in my experience. Pleasant surprise!
I am the proud caretaker of this lovely Wolf and Twins Series AE As from Steve's collection. It arrived early this week. It's a generally sharp example with some striking weakness, which I think Steve had posted on CT in the past. It's ex RBW duplicates, and RBW bought it from Bank Leu in January 1985 (per RBW's included ticket). It's a bittersweet acquisition; I'm thrilled to have it, but terribly saddened by the circumstances. I hope this small purchase will somehow help Steve and his family at this difficult time.
I just purchased 8 coins from Steve's collection and am proud to be their new foster-parent. Steve's incredibly discerning eye when it came to selecting his coins meant I'd often go "ooh, why didn't I see that one first!" when he'd show them here. It's a shame he has to part with them, but at the same time, his sale is a real opportunity for the rest of us to acquire a few coins from his exceptional collection. There are still well over 300 coins from the collection available, and if anyone is on the fence about picking up a coin or two, I urge you to get off the fence and click buy or make an offer. It's highly unlikely you're going to regret the decision. A few that I really wanted to buy were sold by the time I got my act together, and I'd honestly have bought more had my budget allowed. Here's one of the coins I picked up, one of my favorite of his. Pictures and description copped Steve's previous posts.
