Thanks for sharing your source... some good info on there about color progressions. I'll have a resource the next time someone asks me about their toned Morgan.
I tried to post the original posts made in the PCGS forum, but most of sunnywood's photos show the photobucket upgrade needed image, but found this summary, which will help for Morgans. The flow surface of a morgan is different from the surface of a peace dollar, and this is one of the main difference in toning characteristics. http://www.1881o.com/assets/sunnywood-toning-classification-system2.pdf
When I first saw the pictures, I immediately thought of the old Pillsbury commercial jingle ... "Nothin' says lovin' like something from the oven ... ".
Nope a MS- 63 and in hand it's rather a nice coin for the money paid,a dealer friend purchases it at a show had it less than 5 mins. Before I walked up.
And what genius, I wonder, does the kind of tedious experimenting that must be necessary to eventually coming up with a bizarre trick/technique like that?
Glad the experts got involved, I love NT coins and always looking for a good deal when looking. I question on this one though, is, if AT why not be toned on both sides ? With an end of the roll NT, which this could have been, and I'm saying, 'could have been', the exposed side is toned, the side in is not. Correct ? I await the blood letting.
Good thought, but I could do it ( if I was that type of collector) by taking a bright-whitey and put it in a paper tube as an End of Roll coin before I ATed it. Most assume liquid AT solutions, but gas diffusion of the chemical gives a more reliable pattern, but is still blocked by the paper. The same thought should be used for "bag toning" with fiber appearing lines of tone. Why so many buys all the old canvas coin bags they can find on ebay?
I know this is not my post sorry if I do wrong here but I have this toned peace dollar think it's real my grandad left it with few others
I've seen AT coins in a PCGS and NGC holder. Look at the toned ASEs. This coin would not transfer to NGC or PCGS.
