I had hit an extra digit on an auction bid and was grateful I was able to recall the bid and note it as an error. otherwise I would have probable stopped bidding & buying ever again. It happens, glad it worked out in the long run for you.

Are there other forms of life in the universe outside of earth?

Good question. I'm going to say yes. We've found water on Mars which means there's probably water in places all over the universe that's supporting some kind of life. I don't think there's any life capable of reaching us with space ships unfortunately.

That's exactly how to look at it as well.

I had a eBay auction go a way I've never seen before, I was bidding on my avatar coin and put the most I was willing to pay with about 8 seconds left before the bid. I was the high bidder by quite a bit and then 3 seconds and I see my MAX bid is now the high bid and I'm like great here goes another one..... I win! I went and looked at the bids after I won, and the other buyer put in the EXACT SAME AMOUNT as me... $116.59, to the tee! Imagine placing your bid and see your MAX bid as the winning bid only to find out you still lost..... I feel for that other buyer.

Congrats on getting out of the coin you never really wanted! I had a 78-CC in AU58, but the business strikes just don't compare to the proof issue!

The few times recently that I have put in a max bid that tied the winner, eBay has sent me an eMail "You're winning now, but you may still be outbid." No, Im not winning now. Speaking of eBay, the only time I have ever withdrawn a bid it was for "3,00". Seems eBay ignores commas, and in my rush didn't notice that I was confirming a bid of $300.00.

    Full bid.

    But worth it IMHO.

Don't cry. Wait a little for the market to rebound and get rid of it.

Not my biggest mess up, but rather embarrassing. I'm currently living in Germany and just bid on the Prestige Set of my birth year. I was going to get it for under $20, based on the bids.

I was in a hurry and the bid was really low, just a couple minutes out, so I put in 7.95 as my bid and rush clicked through both windows.

If I did that in the US, I'd be bidding less than $20, shipping included, for the set. In Germany, they use commas instead of periods to delineate euros and euro cents. That means I bid $795 and won it for a whopping $60 with shipping included. I just spent 3x what I was hoping to on something I really didn't even want, just thought it was a great deal. Go me. :banghead:

A very wise numismatist once told me.......

"......David, if you aren't making mistakes, you aren't buying enough coins!"

I just bought a coin on ebay that was at a good low starting grade, and it only had less than a half hour to go. I had put in a large enough bid to allow wiggle room if someone came in quickly to get it just above that, because the starting price was really attractive, but then I realized that I really did not want to pay my high bid on this particular coin, mainly because it was at the high end of the value of this coin. Spent the last few minutes of the auction sweating that someone would happen to throw in a big enough bid to put me at or near my limit for this. Lucky for me no one did and I get this one at a sweet price. Still waiting on another auction that could see me paying a higher price for one coin than I really want to or having it lost to someone because my idea of a high price for this one is not high enough...

    Ask the Guy Anything:
Who will win the US Presidential election in 2020?
And, will we be nuked by the North Koreans before then?
