so 3 different things are all the same??? I find that hard to believe.

 

I don't see why you find it hard to believe a large majority of quarters, have access metal during the rimming process. And under laymen Definition that access metal is considered a burr.
If I'm can make a suggestion, go up to the search box and put in burr, you will see some very interesting threads posted by other members on coin talk.

 

no that is not the case. I have a hard time believing that 3 different things I posted you claim are all burrs. while no 2 look the same. not saying you are wrong on all 3...but I cannot believe you are right about all 3.

 

The fact that so many can be found on different SQ's and date/mintmark coins is the primary reason why I don't consider them collectible, but don't let me stop you. If you get yourself a USB scope capable of magnification to 200x, maybe you can trade them with USMC60.

it's not that chris. I posted multiple coins with oddities on the rim...all looking different and they say they are all burrs. if they are then fine... if not, that is even better.

 

Chris we all know you consider these garbage coins and not worth your time. And personally I keep the interesting ones and discard the rest.
Yes there only worth a quarter monetary wise. I guess for an old Marine I look at it more of an artistic metal form. Chris you know the old saying one man's garbage is another man's treasure. USMC60

 

All I can say is there is quite a few variations. And some even hide rim cuds.
I have some listed on cuds on coins. But you'll find in years coin search you're going to run into a wide variety of burrs.I go through about 4000 quarters a month, and I'm always finding something new. USMC60

 

4000? That's only 2 boxes. I do 4 to 5 boxes of quarters a week. And now 2 boxes of halves on the weekend. So with that said I go through 32,000 to 40,000 quarters a month and 8000 halves a month. I don't waste my time with little stuff. I target coins that have specific collectable errors. Retained cuds. Cuds. Hard to find doubled dies like Iowa 001 and 002. The Minnesota best of varieties. Homestead best of varieties etc. My shelves are full of paper cups, tubes, 2x2 etc. Same with any other denomination. I have so many die chips, ones that might classify as interior die breaks, cracks, 2 sided partial retained cuds, retained cuds, and cuds that I am confident I could over take the listings on COC

 

here are a couple in my private collection you might like. all were found by me.
first is my favorite 1983 quarter. obv cud, rev retained cud, with obv rev die clashes.

 

the hard to find. I wont waste your time with the Colorado, west Virginia, and north Dakota common ones.

 

I believe the OP's Utah Quarter is
a rim burr, but it wasn't large enough
to be struck into the coin's surface,
like the other one I just replied about.

It was a smaller, thinner (in diameter)
piece of copper, and it came over the
rim, but wasn't large enough to be
struck into the inside of the rim.

That's quite impressive do you get your coins from the same bank ?

 

Fred I agree with you. At this coin with a window circulation even for a day and a loose rim metal would be gone. That's why when you get him right from the mint you have a better chance of finding loose flakes.

As one reason I like finding them.As far as the thickness of the copper flakes, no matter the thickness it will be embedded in the rim of the coin if it is hit by the die.

Just my personal observation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is only one person on these forums who claims that they are burrs and this know-it-all has the gall to tell Fred Weinberg that he is wrong.

I get my coins from 2 banks with multiple locations. And dump at different banks with multiple locations. I only target coins that I can get 5 dollars or more for. I use to save EVERYTHING no matter how minor and it piled up to fast.

 

Nope. As a matter of fact there are a decent amount of state quarters on there that I sold. The only listing I ever wanted to make was johns best of variety list. Did that with homestead 008. Found my first TRUE unlisted doubled die. last on the bucket list is a major DD find. D.c. or Wisconsin etc.
