I've always found Swiss coinage from any era to have a feeling of tangible solidity and resolve about it, which I suppose is but a fair representation of the national character, i.e., the typical stance and outlook, of the citizens of the nation that produces it.

Here it is, the coin that IMHO as an example of modern U.S. coinage is second only, and a very close second at that, to the Walking Liberty half dollar both in its consistent beauty and lasting magnificence.

While the Imperial Regime of pre-Revolutionary Russia may not have had the best press among its own subjects, it certainly can't be denied that it oversaw the spawning of a period of creativity and a subsequent legacy of artistic endeavor that distinctly overshadows and far and away outclasses the abysmally depressing and esthetically pointless propagandistic output of the succeeding exceedingly dreary Bolshevik era.
Please Note: This is NOT a political opinion advocating the resurrection of Tsarist Russia, but rather a visceral reaction that is inclined to rank the artistic merit of exquisitely designed and stunningly realized Faberge Eggs above that of, for example, heroically-portrayed iron-jawed idealized soldiers, farmers, and factory workers painted in giant mural style on the sides of massive buildings.

This is the oh-so-very-grand-looking "Godfather" of modern Swiss coins. IMHO, it is to Swiss coinage what the Walking Liberty is to U.S. coinage, that is to say, an outright masterpiece of both the coin designer and the minter's art.

I really like the stark contrast between the sophisticated European potentate on the Obverse and the three lethal-looking African bush spears on the Reverse; tells quite a story all by itself.

    I like that Swiss 5 franc too. Here is a neat coin from the free city state of Danzig. So next can be Germany or Poland or Danzig, 1932. 1932 B SW 5 f obv.JPG 1932 B SW 5 f rev.JPG 1932 Danzig 10 p obv.JPG 1932 Danzig 10 p rev.JPG
