i`ve just recently bought a huge collection of world coins from a deceased estate.
Among the collection are these four Morgans.
But something is not right.
Do you know , no prizes, just for fun.

Cast chinese fakes?

 

I don't think the 1881 in the top right is a fake. Note the pull-away toning on the date and the lower stars. This can't be faked.

Ah yeah i see now. It even looks to have a few bag marks. The bottom 2 both look to be poorly cast and I assumed all 4 were fake. The 1901 just looks off as well.

 

top 2 cleaned, the bottom 2 have a P mintmark.

P= Peking

 

Three are genuine, passed the slide test, weigh the correct amount.

One was was thinner than the others and I knew right away it was a phoney, no slide test was required as it was impossible to perform.

 

The reverses.

The phoney has the Chinese CC mintmark.

 

I don't believe the '01 is real either. The date is all out of whack, big one, little one, and a crooked nine.

 

The weight is the same as the other two, it passes the slide test, the thickness and diameter are bang on.

 

I think the 1901 was cleaned look at the rim wear which correlates to the hair wear so it was in circulation but no dirt?
