This post is primarily aimed at new collectors. The History Channel is currently running an ad for a 1964 Cook Islands Morgan Dollar. This is a fantasy piece and has a copper core with an extremely thin plating of real silver. The cost is $9.95 plus $4.95 shipping. This is not a valuable piece and please do not think of ordering it thinking it will increase in value over time, or that it is valuable because of the silver content. I'm not saying not to buy it, because you can buy anything you wish if it pleases you. Just do not think it's a great deal. I know a dealer who sells copper rounds at 100 ounces for $109.00 with free shipping.

Sometimes it's good to be gullible and ignorant. I bought 5 of these for $75, then sold 3 of them for $150 on eBay. So you can chastise me for taking advantage of unsuspecting buyers, but I didn't misrepresent what I was selling any more than NCM misrepresented them when I bought them. Now I've got 2 of them in my collection (for free) and an extra $75 in my pocket.
    Flame suit on!

So, proud of you to do such a thing, Look at you, (shaking head)taking advantage of unsuspecting individuals. You might have a little following, and there might be some other folks that feel it's ok.

But, Hey, just because it happens, does that make it OK?

You act like I bought them with the intention of taking advantage of others. Nope, once I realized I misunderstood what I was buying what's wrong with getting some (or more) of my money back? Why should I be the only one to buy something then regret it because I didn't pay close attention to what was being advertised? Did you miss the part where I said I didn't mislead my buyers any more than NCM mislead me? The photos I used (from the NCM website) clearly show the cook islands logo, and I even put in bold print that the coin was CLAD in silver, you know, the same text that is on the NCM website which I basically copied and pasted into my eBay listing. So no, I don't feel guilty [...]. :p

Face value, and selling them upon your ability as a numismatist, would have been Prudent. edit.

    I removed the exclamation mark.

Who are you calling a numismatist? Would I have been suckered into buying them if I knew what I was doing? Nope! Face value? So I should have sold them for $1 each? Gimme a break! This way I turned a mistake into a profit. So yeah, I guess I am pretty proud of myself.

D-Train, don't let anyone boss you around. You doubled your profit and you still have two left over. Get yourself another $75.00 profit if the idiots on ebay are so interested in them.

    Thanks sacdollar!
I plan to keep one, so I've got the 4th one listed, it has a $20 bid on it already but the auction doesn't end until Saturday night. Maybe I'll get $65 for it like I did on 2 others, the 3rd one got $20. I toyed with the idea of getting another 5, depending on what happens with the 4th one, but then again I admit I'd feel a little bit guilty doing that. :shy:

Stick with the Dan Carr ones. I've sold a couple at $300+ each. Everything else is stocking stuffers.

Yeah but Dan Carr coins cost a LOT more than these. I can't afford a Dan Carr coin. :(

Hey I've got an idea! What if I sell about 10 of these Cook Island Morgans, then I'll make enough profit to buy ONE Dan Carr coin! Yeah! That's the ticket! :clown:

Just as long as you didn't misrepresent, what you were selling and the buyers were happy. Then, no problem by me.

Do you have to be to make a profit? Don't think so, as far as that goes. As long as you are careful in your wording.

You cannot clearly see your side of an argument until you open your eyes from whence the other person has shut them.
