Excellent efforts, Gerard! You've taken it farther than I would have—given my short attention span (Would you believe that's what my third grade teacher wrote under Additional Comments on one of my report cards. The label has followed me ever since. I guess she was right ) Now what was I talking about?
Haha, like most of us... I have my own version of the “bag o’ romans” except mine is a felted mail “tray o’ rough coins.” I’ll buy small lots of coins where I really only may be interested in one coin... and the rest may be in terrible shape. This is where they go if they’re not totally junk and identifiable... plus a few in better shape. However, most of these probably won’t make “the books.” Most people would keep the ones they want and sell the rest but I have a hard time parting with any Coins once I have them. So, eventually I’ll probably give many of these to people. Anyway, as a side note... a great cheap coin tray is made by going to Walmart and buying a mail tray and piece of felt... I made this one in about 5 minutes for about 5 dollars. ...ignore the cat hair... my feline coin helper likes to keep my coins warm by laying in the tray...
Nice job at sticking with this @GerardV. It takes a lot of time and effort to learn how to attribute these coins properly. You continuing to work and post on the bag-o-Romans is a great way to honor @Deacon Ray 's generous gift and is encouraging to others who may have been burned by gift recipients not appreciating the gesture in the past (we had a problem with some new members selling gifts on eBay a while back). To Doug's point maybe it would be good to pick some of your favorites and give them thier own threads as you work through them. You can always link the thread back to here.
Hug your wife and tell her that no matter what she says to you—you still love her. Then go back to your coin collection.
I out-kicked my coverage with my wife. She is way better than I deserve and puts up with all of my random acts of jackassery.
Thank you, Jacob! You're definitely our favorite Youngcoin collector! How is your collection coming along? Can you snap some pictures of your collection? I just want to get an idea of where your strengths are and what areas you would like to expand. Maybe it's late Roman or Provincials etc. No pressure, no hurry! Only if you feel like it!
Haha thank you very much Deacon Ray! I'd love to take some pictures of my collection and share it (I love showing off ) currently I'm on my way home from a famliy vacation up north I should be home in around four hours so when I get the chance I will. Should I start my own thread or post here? (I don't want to hijack Gerard's hard work) Thanks, Jacob
That works for me too. I'm for whatever is easiest for the group. Plus, I just went through the box with "almost" attributed coins from the Bag o Romans. There are 10 more I'm getting ready snap pics and post. Five have a tentative RIC and five don't have one yet. So, if we use this thread it's about to get even more messy. Although I'm thinking about doing a thread for each emperor instead.
