I found this in a bank roll yesterday. I believe it is listed on Wexlers site as WDDO-003. Thought I would share.
It's Coneca DDO-003 . http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/1972PDDO003.htm Wexler DDO-003 . http://www.doubleddie.com/384301.html Coppercoins DDO-003 . http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1972&die_id=1972p1do003&die_state=lds For once, all 3 have them as the same number DDO .
I have been calling my cents like this "split rims". Could this be an indication of a doubled die? And - is that the right term for the indent in the rim?
That is called a Misaligned Die Strike. The one shown is very small and adds no extra value to the coin. There is no correlation between this and a doubled die. A doubled die is created while making a die from a master die. It is present on a die during the minting process. A misaligned die strike results from a die not being correctly placed, or held in place, during the minting process. Either could happen without the other being present.
Let's see it head on, not angled, and see if you can also get a good closeup of what you see doubled.
