    Good afternoon!

Just bought a large group of US coins & paper money at face value (was the part of a collection that the LCS didn't want; when I'm there, I offer to buy it at face otherwise the owner would have taken them to the bank.)

I thought it would be fun to post a live "in progress" thread of any varieties/highlights I find. Photos will have to come later or this process will take forever (probably about $50 in cents alone.)

Let's get it started with a couple cool varieties I've already found in the first two handfuls:

    *1974 D Kennedy Half DDO-002
    *1977 D Kennedy Half DDO-001
    *1976 D UNC (full roll)
    *Buffalo Nickel (with date): 2
    *Buffalo Nickel (no date): 2
*1963 B "Barr" FRN (about half are CHUNC and/or consecutive): 53
    *$1 Silver Certificates: 15
    *$2 Red Seal USN: 8
    *Steel Wheat Cents: 107
*UNC 1971 D "Talon Head" Ike Dollars: 10
*UNC 1971 D "Talon Head" & "Hair Lip" Ike Dollar: 1
    *UNC Ike Dollars (1971 D, 1972 D): 15
    *1941 S "Large S" Jefferson Nickel
    *1943 S Silver Jefferson Nickel
    *1942 S Silver Jefferson Nickel
*(possible) 1964 D/D Jefferson Nickel (just not sure on this variety yet)
    *1938 S Jefferson Nickel: 2
    *1960 D "Bar 0" Jefferson Nickel: 2
*1970 D "Deep Grooves" Roosevelt Dime

Are those DDO's marketable? By that I mean if a guy has one, is there a market into which to sell them? Or are they just curiosities?

I think you should find a lot of varieties since you posted this thread in World Coins.

Ha ha...what's funny is that I was trying to post in the US Coins section, but had the browser window pushed over to the left and didn't see it properly. Will bring to a mod's attention. Good eye.

Well, the 1977 D are so hard to find, the sales history is pretty much nonexistent. I do remember selling an AU55 for $75 (IIRC.) Never tried to sell a 1974 D -002...

Sounds like what market there is might be a little thin.

At face value, though, I'm not really concerned with the existence of a huge market. ;)

I'm trying to ascertain whether it's worthwhile to search my stuff. I have a low tolerance for time wasting. I've reached the stage in life where the counter counts DOWN and I'm losing digits to the left, man.

I get it. If your coins are UNC, I'd definitely search them. The previous 1977 D I found all came when I was in grad school in Salt Lake City. I think one came back as an MS61 (still have it), a few AU58, and a couple AU55. I think I could get $75-100 for the 58's were I to list them, and who knows with the 61 (but I'm keeping it for now anyway.)

So is the 61 fully UNC but baggy, as the grade should be?

Well, sir, I happen to have that coin already imaged, so here you go:

Wow, I consider 61 a wee bit harsh on that 77-D.
