A wild guess says this is a fouree.

Post your Norbanus, fourees or whatever.

    Surprising that it stayed together.

That is a sweet deal... I like it very much!

My most recent fourrée also has a highly corroded core, so much so that it has a hole right through it in one spot. (L. Sempronius Pitio, 148 BC.)

I hope I haven't missed the boat too badly on these. I don't know anything about fourees but I purchased these a while back. Not for what they are but to whom they once belonged ;)

My example of the somewhat scarcer variety which includes a prow the the reverse, Crawford 357/1a:

Super deal for that biscuit (cookie). Looks like it is ABOUT to crumble... :)

Me: Nary a Norbanus, nary an 83 BCE!

My ONLY Fouree from the Republican Era is a combo Fouree / Mule:

Ken Dorney Yea, I'm Cool That Way...

Thats an interesting coin. It clearly shows how different metal decompose. I knew a collector years back who had a fouree Alexander Tetradrachm in which the base metal had corroded away almost completely leaving mostly a silver shell.

Every once in awhile something is offered to the firm that I want for myself, but very seldom, actually. This wasn't one of them. It's out of a Goldberg sale ten years ago; previously ex-Tkalec, where interestingly it hammered at a lot more money than I wound up paying.

Aah. I can see this as something that would be handled by those firms.

Although I still suspect you have resurrected Becker in some unholy way. :phantom:;)

Once upon a time I could go to a show with a real expectation of finding something I wanted. Those days are long over though, partly because I do have a fair number of coins by now so the number of types I'm still looking for has dwindled, but largely because in the real world 99+% of the very best coins are being consigned to a major auction.

I regret selling that Septimius if it was offered as fourree or limes. I missed it if JA listed it that way. It suffered from being buried and cleaned harshly but it was not plated. It is a rare obverse but a duplicate in my collection.

Thank you, Sir! It's still a privilege to have it in my collection.

Oh man, I thought this coin was going to be kind of "racy" based on your thread title pish! LOL!

I'd like to add some fourees to my collection, but I do have one nice republican one...
