I just got ANOTHER email about colorized coins.
I debated including the link because I didn't want to get this anymore exposure. But then I thought if I didn't people would ask, "What do you mean?"
    So here it is.

My questions are: Does anyone here buys these?
If you do, why? And do you think they are a good investment?
When I look at the price of this particular one, all I can say is OMG!

    I dislike them. Why? I don't really know. I guess I'm just old-fashioned.

Huh.. Until now I didn't really know that colorized coins were a thing. I've mostly only had experience with pennies so far, but I'd say that I wouldn't buy a colorized. I just like the look of the normal copper and zinc.

Why would you paint over a precious metal? Why not make it out of aluminum or tin and paint over that? I don't want gold or silver that has been painted over... yuck

Generally no for ones like in the link, but there are some I like (mostly foreign ones) and will buy those if I like them. ASEs have some really well done ones as well

Strictly from a coin collecting viewpoint, it has long been my understanding that when a coin is colorized its numismatic value automatically drops to absolute zero. On the other hand, I would be the last person to judge those who like colorized coins, since that preference by and of itself is entirely a matter of personal taste.

I feel the same way about ink on a woman's flesh.

Likewise, when I look at those colorized Wonder Woman coins from Canada, they make me feel like a dirty old man.

That's exactly it; it's really a matter of personal taste. Art, after all, is subjective. :watching:

They don't do much for me. The one coin shop was trying to get rid of 5 oz silver bullion, gold plated. Even discounted, I had no interest.

I bought a "colorized" silver eagle a number of years ago. Got it cheap. Took it home and a acetone bath fixed it!
