This might be an odd question. I have used a couple of hand stapler's. One of them can't get the stapler through the cardboard. The other one get's it through about half the time. Would a electric stapler heavy duty work? I think with them they might not be able to put the staple where you want it. Is there a hand stapler that works great with the 2x2's? Also, once the stapler works right the staples on the other side are rounded. Do you hit them to lay flat? Or is there a stapler that flattens the other side when you staple? I am getting ready to buy a new stapler and was wondering what does everyone else use if you use the 2x2's?
I use the "Max Flat" clinch stapler. I have never had a jam or a bad staple. It always flattens the staples out and it works wonderfully for 2x2's. It's also designed to work with minimum pressure. It's a little more expensive than a regular desktop stapler but I think its worth the extra cost.
There are flat staplers that will keep the other side flat which a lot of people use, others will just use pliers and flatten the backs
People are knowledgeable about the stapler, but often not about the staples. Use Stainless Steel staples, since they penetrate the mylar protective film, moisture can rust regular steel staple in many environments and the corrosion can be carried into the open area where the coin resides. The arrows point to where the staples were before removing from the 2X2 to send in. The toning on the rim shows the area of the staples. Jim
A flat-cinch stapler is the only way to go. Don't get cheap by using pliers. They don't always work as well as you'd like. Chris
I bought a mini stapler from the dollartree and it works great. Staples are standard size and I always staple on angle in each corner, then hammer them down. It seems to give you more room for writing and less risk of the staples causing an issue.
Where can I purchase standard size stainless steel staples 23/6. I have googled and looked on Amazon and have found none.
I use a regular stapler or a staple gun and then mush down the back of the staples with a pair of plyers.
I bought a flat cinch stapler, a little mini one, years ago and have used it since. As my collection grew to bigger and better things I eventually moved over to nonPVC flips.
Amazon search "amazon stainless steel staples" brought up several choices. Stationary stores like "Staples" also usually carry them . Jim
Sorry. Don't use staples. Use "self slab" style holders and masking tape on cardboard holders. That's it all folks!
I just use a normal run of the mill stapler and staples. You can pick one up just about anywhere. It was cheap. On 2 x 2’s after it’s stapled I pinch them tight with a pair of everyday pliers. Works every time.
I also use the flat cinch linked to above at Wizard. Don't waste time with pliers. For 27 bucks, it's worth the investment. Here's a good example of staples-toning on a coin in my collection: But I've never seen it happen to any coins in my 2x2s.
I bought the Wizard flat-clinch stapler a few years ago. It has never jammed, 100% reliability on flat-clinching the staple, and is hands-down the easiest manual stapler I have ever used in my 72 years. When I bought it, I looked all over Amazon, Staples, etc. for stainless steel staples and could not find any. Guess I'll look again.
