Books on Commodus say he was the natural son of Marcus.

Great coin with nice toning. Sometimes the portraits of Commodus are a little generic, glad to see that you got a very distinctive one.

Great portrait ! I am not particularly fond of most portraits of Marcus Aurelius and Commodus. They do not look life-like compared to say those of Trajan or Hadrian.

There are so many portrait styles that I'm not sure how we are suppose to know exactly what he looked like. Most would say large statues would be most accurate but that is not necessarily the case. Of course, Commodus was around for years and changed appearance just like the rest of us do. Below are my favorite portraits of his. The first as Caesar strikes me likely to grow into the second two (same year).

Much later and more tired looking is this denarius attributed to the Alexandria mint. Below it is a tetradrachm of Alexandria for comparison. I do not know if both mints were under the same management.

I Like it! Very nice portrait and denarius in my book! Nice detail, good eye appeal, and what looks like original patina.
