im prety sure its a grading serivice that grades grading services if that makes sense there was a big articale about them in the most recent coinworld if you are intrested
yes another way to blow money on the holder than the coin after u have gone through 2 rounds of grading and got 2 opinions on your coin u r out of 50 bucks pretty soon there will be a third round as well ill just have to start that company myself
It's supposed to "authenticate" the grades given by other TPGs. There are some big names involved, but my personal take is that it is a great big huge hunk of hooey! There have been prior threads about them.
If I was rich and was purchasing a $1 Million coin and I could not verify the coin in person prior to purchase, I would hire a reliable consultant to physically go and verify the coin for me prior to purchasing it. In that specific scenario, the claims this company make, almost make sense, almost... But alas, I'm not rich (at least not monetarily)...
Another layer/label of numismatic bureaucracy! Save your money . . . Buy/Collect The Coins . . . Peel the Labels . . .
Yeah, this has been in Coin World quite a bit recently. Pretty pointless, if you ask me. Plus, CAC is only "certifying" the grades of PCGS and NGC coins. Furthermore, the main person behind CAC (John Albanese) was one of the founders of NGC (if I'm not mistaken). Sounds fishy, no?
hell yeah its fishy....sounds like he's wishing he would have held on to NGC! I don't care what names are involved with this crap...these very few control alot of the coin market already. PCGS and NGC are very trustworthy for the most part...let him certify the other group of grading companys, there the ones who need certification in my book!
He is well know Interview With John Albanese, Renowned Numismatist, About Silver Commemoratives link to page http://www.blanchardonline.com/silverc/ another good article http://www.pocketchangelottery.com/article67.htm
I'm not saying he is without credentials, the guys smart no doubt. I'm saying these guys, these "top guys" there the ones holding the strings in this hobby. He started NGC then for some reason sold his interest in it and then sat back and figured out a way to squeeze even more money outta this hobby. If he wasn't a rated guy his ideas, comments, actions...etc. etc. would have no merit its exactely because he is respected that this CAC company has made it's way from brain child to retail!
I feel ya on this but what I meant was overall there a positive in the minds of most. Maybe not the top tier guys but with the majority.
p.s. if you think NGC and PCGS, in their current incarnation, are trustworthy, you are sadly mistaken -- which is part of the reason the CAC is being formed, BTW.
LOL :high5::high5::high5::high5::high5: TPGs are a recent scourge of the hobby. I like my dogs like I like my coins, "No Papers, No Plastic, and No Pedigree..."
Leadfoot face it these grading companys and now this CAC. They are aimed at the unknowing in this hobby. The guys that tout all this crap about overgrading undergrading etc. etc. ....there full of it. These guys dont need grading companys or stickers that authenticate. There doing it because the majority will spend MONEY there not doing it for the hobby there doing it to line there pockets...all this other crap is just that crap...if your worth your weight in this hobby you can look at a coin and come up with a grade and then decide if the price is worth it.
Yet another of the unfair and untrue statements you've made on this topic. For your information, I have no interest whatsoever, financial or otherwise, in the CAC. However, I prefer to judge people by their deeds, not my impressions...Mike
