Canadian Nickel - No date on front? I recently found a Canadian nickel that has no year stamped underneath the word Canada (which is underneath the picture of the beaver) on the front of it. The back has a small date stamped "1952-2002". I would assume this means it's a regular 2002 nickel? All the other nickels I have looked at to compare have dates there. Was this something they changed for a while or is this an error? I looked at 2003 and 2004 nickels, and they both have dates, too. If anyone has info, please advise. Thanks.
This isn't an error. Just a dual-dated nickel. The date appears below the bust along with the "P" mint mark. The mintage on this coin was 135,960,000. David
All the donominations of 2002 coins have this double date. It is to commemorate the golden jubilee of Elizabeth II's ascension to the throne.
The letter "P" is used to denote a plated coin. In 2000 the RCM began issuing a nickel-copper-nickel plated steel-cored 5 Cent coin. The dual date commemorates Elizabeth II's 50th anniversary as Queen. nds76: where did you get your mintage number? My November 2004 COINS magazine lists mintage as 134,362,000.
I get all my Canadian coin information from the Charlton Standard Catalogue Canadian Coins 59th Edition 2005. Very informative. David
is the nickel worth anything without a date my mom recently got a nickel without a date on the front of it l like to know is it valuable or worth anything
You notice the date is 1952 - 2002. These were to commemorate the fiftieth year of Queen Elizabeth's reign. After the anniversary was over they went back to the normal dating.
