That 1915 is probably one of the most beautifull coins ever struck! In my collection, the Dukat is the most prolific coin type I have My last count was at 278! different coins....

    278 and growing....WOW:)

Can't argue with that @panzerman, 1915 is a beautiful coin. Although my main focus is Sovereigns, I do love the occasional Ducat.;)

Picked up this Chios, Zecchino 14th Century imitation recently. Graded MS but softly struck.

Nice coin, I like all the Crusader States AV coinage! As for Sovereigns, that basic design/ engraving art has not changed in 200 years....got to hand it the the Royal Mint for keeping the classic design all these years:)!

Interesting design! The portrait of the emperor looks a little strange though, almost abstracted. If such a style was used on a coin these days, some collectors would probably complain about the oh-so-awful disjointed modern depiction. ;)

As for the eagle, in the case of emperor Matthias, the reference to Habsburg makes sense, but I would definitely put the emphasis on "Imperial". Lübeck was one of the free cities, that is, it was not governed by some count or duke but had only the king and emperor of the "Holy Roman Empire" above it. A free city showed that status by depicting the imperial eagle (single or double headed). Lübeck's CoA still looks like the one on your coin ...

  10. I recently got an 1711 Augustus 2 strong coin. I believe it is a dukat. Where can I found out more about it. I got it from my Dad's estate so I know practically nothing about coins. Look forward to learning.

  11. Nice
