Way to go davedawg, you finally found an Error that even Treas and Speedy can't dis! Although minor, it is a nice example of what a Die Gouge can make. Frank
Hey, Frank: I don't dis real errors. I really like them. Perhaps a die gouge, along with die erosion.
I really can't tell about any die errosion but the coin has seen it's share of insides of many pockets and probably the roughness of sidewalks! Frank
Very Cool! I would agree with the Die Gouge with only one question----I thought a die gouge was indented....wouldn't it be a die crack or even a small cud? Speedy
So, uh, does this go in a cardboard 2x2 or back in the barrell on its way to the coin machine at the bank? Can't tell if you guys are serious or not. I guess I've opened up the door to get messed with now by you guys : ) But seriously, explain it to me in Lehman's terms, what, why, and bueno o no bueno. Thanks, this is a lot of fun, I'm gonna keep posting coin after coin after coin and let you guys fight it out! LOL
Speedy, Since a Die Gouge is a gouge in the Die itself, it is incuse on the Die just like a Die Dot or a Die Crack. Therefore, when the coin is struck with the Die, the Die Gouge like a Die Dot and Die Crack, show up on the coin as obtuse! It is possible that the Error on davedawg's Nickel could be from a Die Crack or Break but without in hand inspection, it appears to be more the result of a Die Gouge. Frank
davedawg, It is your call on whether to 2x2 the coin or send it back to the Bank! The coin is a bonified Error but adds little if any value above face value to the coin...especially due to the highly circulated condition of the coin. Now, if the coin were in Mint State condition, then you might be able to get 10, 20 or maybe even 30 times face value for it but who really knows what it would bring unless it is placed up for auction! Also, we don't fight, we just have stimulationg disagreement!encil: Frank
Thanks, I think I'll keep it. I know we don't fight here, it's fun to hear different opinions and I love the intellectual discussions, God knows I don't get it at my job. I'm going through a box of cents tonight so I'll post anything interesting I might find. By the way, how do you guys get those little icons within the message, I can only get them next to the title of my thread.
I'd keep it! Frank---thanks for getting me right on that---I wasn't sure but thought there was something different about that. Speedy
