Now I see my self ripping through old Tobaco barns in Southern Maryland looking for some old red necks 67 El Camino.
Hoping to God there's no color presences. :jawdrop:

End goal is matte black, so it could be pink for all I care when it gets to me. ;)

(My previous El Camino was a 1971 that was still in gray primer. Such a piece of junk it was...I remember the battery falling out and "riding" on the top of the passenger side front wheel while I was driving once - the previous owner had replaced the wheel wells with plastic ones that did not react to the winter cold very well. Snapped right off. Luckily, I was only going about 5 mph at the time. Luckier still, I had a package of long zip ties in the smuggler's box...)

Oh, that car. Such a piece of junk, and oh, how I loved driving it around. PERFECT for drive in movies.

When I graduated (and needed to move from Salt Lake City to St. Louis) I got lucky...it was going to cost about $1,500 to ship it...well, I got lucky because it snowed while it was parked on the street and some lady just scraped the entire driver's side (bumper to bumper and everything in between.) Sold it for less than the insurance settlement...so I did okay. But I do miss it and would love to drive another one (current car gets 35 mpg, has AC and Bluetooth audio though...but it's not an El Camino!)

so how does a misplaced date happen? is a different die state then the original die which is suppose to strike the coin?

    According to Mr. Wexler:

"Specialists still do not agree on a reason for these very widely misplaced digits."

Here's a hint like the British Navy ....drinking while minting was acceptable on the job.
So tea time could be 80 proof

I don't care about varieties or anything like that (as a buyer that is as a seller I sure would!) so I don't care about this coins future attribution I just love the coin period. Beautiful looking coin. Congrats!

Very cool thread! Didn't even know to look for dates in denticles.

I mean, most of the seated quarters I come across on a regular basis look like they haven’t had denticles for decades. It was kind of a cool moment getting to see a variety clear as day, untarnished by wear.

The op coin looks great and would be a standout in anybody's type set, imo. For some reason the 8 in the dentils jumped out at me, maybe because I have 2 1873cc trade dollars with the same feature! And thanks for the "virtual prize," LOL

As well as a tiny, tiny sliver of the diagonal top left of the 1. (Might not be able to see it in the photo, but I can see it in hand. Super cool.

I tagged you as i found another 1876 seaded quarter an R-7 as I do believe we have a few non believers....but ...we both knew ;)

I appreciate the price up date and again i appreciate first offer on it.....glad you did well on it.What is interesting they are listed as mpd's and rare but no images on the NGC varieties site they reconize.

Well, the coin was originally in PCGS plastic and I kept it in there (having the variety attributed of course) to garner the attention of PCGS Registry collectors. It's the only example graded at PCGS, none at NGC, so that might explain why they don't have pictures of the variety on their site.
