Oct. 11 I sent registered mail from northeast Oregon to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Tracking showed it went from here to Pendleton, Oregon to Portland, Oregon [all my mail does that]. So far so good. But then it went to New York City. That seemed a bit out of the way: since Edmonton (red E) is north of Oregon. Imagine my surprise when the next day tracking said "Your item departed a transfer airport in HEATHROW, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM on October 19. The item is currently in transit to the destination." I wonder where it will go next! It seems there is some inefficiency in postal routing.
I have had several international shipments show similar odd movement. Most recently I had a shipment to Germany showing it is in Cuyahoga Falls OH. The post office said something along the lines of how they don't really track international shipments once they leave the US and their system sometimes generates extra info. the picture below shows it left the international airport but then showed up in Ohio-- which it actually did not. Even registered shipping does not track in many countries anymore, though you can still buy it.
It's strange.. half the coins I get from cng go to NYC then to Heathrow then here. Makes no sense to me.
About a year and a half ago, I sent some stamps to a bidder in China. Last tracking shows it in Fort Lauderdale. It never showed again. I had to refund the guy's money. I accept no bids from China now.
Haha nah bit before my time and I grew up a Sabres fan so I didn't really watch the Oilers much til the 06 run. Still a stupid trade imo though.
I had an international registered mail item from Germany go the London UK by accident (I'm in the US). If I remember correctly, Royal Mail sent the package back to Deutsch Post and then it was sent on to the US. All told it took over a month. The last shipment from Germany I chose Fedex as the shipping option. It took 3 days to get to me.
Back in April I purchased two coins from a forum member in Upstate Oregon who posted them on a Thursday and they turned up on Tuesday in West Wales UK which was amazing. I once had a large packet sent from New York on a Friday via tracked USPS and decided to check online if it had been sent on the Monday afternoon. The tracking said "delivered" 3pm so I thought it was scam but later I went out and the package was leaning against my front door! Clearly all Government employees on both sides of the Pond were in efficiency mode. Mind you that's only two exceptional events out of mainly mediocre events and some none arrivals over the years....
Don't worry when I was sending my submission to NGC it magically disappeared off the face of the earth. The tracking number didn't work to begin with and NGC said the pack never arrived at the scheduled date, 5 days later it magically showed up...
@RAGNAROK - No politics here please. FWIW, we recently got a package from Austin, TX to our address in Germany that had a Swedish PostNord sticker ... Christian
Most of us have had postal service horror stories. Massive and inexplicable delays and routing. This year however, the USPS instituted a system in which you can sign up for no signature requirements. I fill out a paper, and everything goes straight to my PO box without having to sign for it. Unfortunately, it doesnt work. Half the time I still have to sign, and taking the slip to the window to claim the mail often takes 30 minutes or longer (I always wonder what they are doing back there, probably taking a nap). Its no wonder they lose money every year. At some point they will be completely replaced by Fedex and UPS.
