MYeah but a lot has to do with the 'quality' of the Reverse Proof and Enhanced Uncirculated. After all, look at what the Enhanced Uncirculated Mint Sets looked like. JUNK! Which contributed to their downfall IMO. Not even a break even on later sales. I did order 2 sets but will not extend myself with my second ordering id. Just too risky for me.
My order (1 set) went through with no problems, and have received an email confirmation. (11:02 central)
Yep, that's horrible that these didn't sell out immediately. Maybe, just maybe, some should look for alternative ways to supplement their income, other than flipping mint offerings. Just a suggestion.
For me, it's not a question of 'supplementing my income' on US Mint products as much as it is in 6 months staring at a product I paid $199.95 for that can only be sold for $125. or worse yet, melt value. It's a question of feeling good about a purchase. This set has ALL the earmarks of a great set with massive upside potential (Look at the 2011 SAE Anniversary Sets at 100,000 sets) at only 50,000 sets but the market seems to be turning a blind eye towards them. PS Nearly an Hour in and they are still available.
I am TRULY Disappointed! I got in Early on the 2017 Enhanced Uncirculated Sets because I messed up on the Congratulations sets which ended up selling for nearly double their issue price. Smooth Check Out on those but a major pain to try and sell the extras. I got in Early on the 2017 Limited Edition Silver Proof Sets because I messed up on the Congratulations sets which ended up selling for nearly double their issue price. Smooth Check Out on those but I haven't even LOOKED at after market prices. Now this morning, I set my alarm (retired...I sleep in a lot) to be sure to get into this morning melee and it's like, everybody else slept IN! No melee. No Scramble. No nothing! I'm disappointed. Whats left for this year? Wasn't there supposed to be a Special Silver Eagle Set?
There's still money to be made with the palladiums. I have 3 raw coming to me today, and a ngc 70 soon.
Pretty sure that was the LESP set. This year is done for anything that could have gained value. The first 1/10th Gold next year is almost assured of being a complete bust, it's the same design as these medals
I wouldn't be so sure about that. I don't think the design killed this, as much as the fact that it's a medal, WAY to expensive, and too high mintage. If they limit the 1/10th gold, it could be hot.
The mint likely has to justify the amount of money they spent on the design of that coin versus the lackluster sales ala the numerous medals and now this 1/10 oz. Apparently they don't get it though that sales are driven by demand of what people want and recycling the same design over and over when it's already not selling well isn't going to help. I'd much rather see fractional palladium coins using the same design as this years. The only thing that struck me as potentially interesting on the schedule was this https://catalog.usmint.gov/san-fran...roof-set-18XC.html?cgid=2018-product-schedule
If they limit enough I could see a repeat of the Merc where it heats up then cools down. Still though that'll be the 4th product with that design and the first two didn't fare very well.
I agree. I am cautiously optimistic for that RP set and fractional palladium coins with that design I think would be very popular. I'm still bitter about the WW1 medals, I would have gotten a set of those if I didn't have to buy one of the commems for each one.
Just an aside off topic but the Boys Town uncirc gold is tracking to be the new key $5 uncirc commemorative gold. Comparing the sales charts from the National park last year (which ended up as the new key with 5,164). So far the Boys town compared to the National Park around this time last year has only sold 2103 thus far which is a whopping 1,094 less than the National Park uncirc which had sold 3197 units by this point. I really don't think demand is going to suddenly sky rocket enough to push it above what the National park finished at. https://www.usmint.gov/about/produc...ears=2017&2017weeks=944&2016weeks=&2015weeks=
