new packaging i am still waiting mine to arrive. can't wait too long. hope i will like it. as i have said before. if i like it. i will buy a lot.
The mint is very good about taking items back. They don't volunteer this, but if you return something, they will reimburse you for the postage. Just get a receipt. They recommend insurance and there's no reason not to get it if they are reimbursing it for you. You may have to call them to request reimbursement after they receive the returned items, but they are very cooperative with this.
Yes! A very large percentage of the presidential coins (at least in the proof sets)are flawed (mainly rust-colored discoloration). I returned about half of 20 proof sets because of that. I wouldn't assume the mint sets are OK just because the packaging is intact. You have only 30 days to return them after you get them.
rust colorization what do you mean rust colorization?. i got my three sets. but it looks like not the kind of proof that i received before. the quality seem not so good. but i don't know how to explain. maybe it was rust colorization.
It's not rust (these coins contain no iron), it's just discoloration that has the same color as rust in the form of blotches or streaks on the surfaces of the coins. I had previously posted some pictures, but they are no longer attached to the original thread. I don't have them with me to repost them.
Received several mint sets over the last week or so. Everything looks good so far and I think I like the packaging. I had a lot of problems with most of the regular proof sets, and silver proof sets, and pres. dollar proof sets though. I had to return most of them for a variety of reasons regarding the condition of the coins. So far so good on the mint sets. I don't think I'll be getting 200 though!!!
Do not buy 2007 Mint Sets! TERRIBLE QUALITY My own quote, I took some ones advice and opened all five. They are all terrible! And after a second close look the first is not really good either. The Kennedy has a scratch. One Denver set actually has a black like spot, it's huge on the reverse over the Lincoln Memorial cent. It actually blots out the 'of' and the 'A' in America and down into the 'e pluribus unum' Not to be outdone there is one (although they are all bad) Sac that actually looks circulated, scratches dents, dings! When I first posted I didn't really believe they could be so bad. These are the worst graded coins ever produced by the mint. I actually may keep the black cent set, just to look at the bad quality over and over. It's a misery thing I really am kind of tolerant with the Mints products when I hear complaints, but I would never tell anyone not to buy something from them, but seeing five of these sets of mine. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THEM. You will be disappointed.
I wish they had been in some kind of folder/envelope that would accomodate both P and D in a single unit. I shoulda kept the cardboard outer box and just sharpe it with year (next year I will). thanks, Douglas
Morning Folks; Just received my mint sets...look just fine to me...I guess i'm not as critical when it comes to quality as some of you people. Come on, they're mint sets. One step above business strike.
2007 mint set i got my 20 sets. but i am not so happy about the quality. i might buy some again in the future. maybe next year.
I opened only 1 of the sets that I purchased. The coins in it look dirty. There is debris in the capsules containing the coins, and while I have always found these burnished SMS coins (or whatever you wanna call them) to be of superior quality and free from marks on the whole. I cannot say that for these coins. They are not horrible, but less than what I have come to expect (which is a lot!). I am sure that it is an isolated case, and the others are fine. now I just have to keep the O/C part of me from investigating the quality of others. LOL
quality wise i think the 2007 mint set quality is far less superior than the first year 2005. but the first year price dropped too much.
Hello Green18, I stated your sentiment which is (was) exactly the same as mine either in this thread or in another. I had opened one set and I took it as OK that it IS basically a business strike and the coins were fine, good enough for my Danscos at least, a few flawed but at that time ok. The rest I put away for my kids. I have NEVER been a US Mint basher, I have never returned anything back to the Mint, even though I've had loose capsules in boxes and things like that but I let it go, until I opened the rest and saw all of the scratches, dings and that black spot on the cent was the kicker, so I sent them back. I hope I get some that others here seem to be pleased with as well. Below is my original quote: I received a resounding YES answer. I'm just telling you that I have Mint sets from 1947 to date and for except for maybe the 70's with the big Ike dollar clanking against the other coins over the last thirty years these by far were the worst looking Mint sets I have ever come across. I have received very beautiful coins in change during the year that look nicer. So, there is a first time for everything and maybe it was a bad batch.
Hi Lemmyk; If what you say is true about your sets being the way you described then I wouldn't blame you at all for sending them back...but like I said: they're one step above business strike. I expect to see slight imperfections such as contact marks and the like. But I Agree with you... dings and black marks are not acceptable
Thanks, like I said I hope when these arrive I'll come on and tell you all is well..... But, I do hear your point. There are people here and on other sites that do nothing but bash the Mint and it's "New modern junk" is what they call it. And let's not forget the elitist snobs who don't like anything either pre-64 or pre-1900 or pick a date! I guess they all forgot that there old coins too once came from the US Mint.
ordering again. 2007 mint unc set finally i decided to order another 20 set. total 40 set. that's it. 20 set 2005, 20 set 2006 and 40 set 2007. maybe 20 set for 2008. other mint set that i got was 100 set 1987.
Wow! deep pockets Elaine! I thought I spent a lot getting 5 Mint sets and 5 Proof sets-Clad/Silver, plus 5 of the same Clad/Silver 5 piece sets every year and three Silver burnished Eagles and One Legacy each year. That's my US Mint budget for the year.Good for you if you can afford it.
