...there were dirty old men. From detecting for years and being on forums this type of coin defacing happened in the past. Others have found this done on large cents also. I found this one a few years back at an old farm house. I didn't even know this word was used back around the time of large cents. From what I see and others have noticed on the detecting forums is that this was mainly done in the mid west states.

I had one like this and was surprised the word was used back then also. However, I don't believe in the "Good Ole' Days", I just think they where the "Better At Hiding Smut Days".

    Jim,

Do you have picture blocking turned on for the YN's?

Very interesting. I'm not suprised that the word was used back then though. A college history teacher told me that the "F-word" is over 5,000 years old.

I'd be skeptical of that. I understood it to be an acroym for an illicit behaviour in Vixtorian (maybe older) England.

you mean like that Pearl Jam album title from the 90's? lol

Seriously, what is funny is when I receive phone calls or emails asking how much those "errors" are worth. I've even had people get mad at me when I told them it was worthless and then insist that it is a mint made error. Rather silly if you ask me.

Probably the same as the large cent that you posted on another website.

That must have been a popular change to make on the large cent. I have one holed with that letter change.

For those who didn't see it, just think of what letter from 'CENT' could be substituted to make another word.
