What the heck are you thinking, ANACS?

Agreed. Only a dummy uses the letters visible on "Liberty" to grade a coin. I don't consider the ANACS graders a bunch of uninformed :bucktooth: dummies. They don't grade by images either. Net graded for something?
Perhaps, the corrosion, scratches, and possible spot removal near the star?
I don't like the coin either, still a tad undergraded. I'm F-15. :muted:

I don't either, but they do have some grading eccentricities and did whiff on that one.

I'm not sure what's not to like . . . I wasn't going to submit the coin, but how about we let either PCGS or NGC settle this for us? Care to pay $30 for my submission if it comes back higher than F15, and I'll send you $30 if it comes back F15 or less?

I'll tell you what, in the spirit of "great fun :D and GTG :p," crack the coin, I'll send you $30 no matter what (after you post it in its new "home") and I'll bet it comes back straight graded as a VF-20. The TPGS's are "expected" to put a value on a coin. If they don't think the coin is worth VF money, "they" dropped the ball.:cigar:

You cannot lose! ;) DO it this week!

Unfortunately, we'll get our answer in October! :arghh: Fortunately, I can start saving up. ;)

Not at all! This is going to be great fun for all of us here. Think of it as a "giveaway" and you win the prize. Did you mail it yet??

The way I see it, you get your coin graded for free and I paid $30 to prove I'm correct. It is a win/win for both of us.:kiss:

If it comes back Fine something. ANACS and my "personal opinion" was correct according to another TPGS. :D

If it comes back VF-20, ANACS was wrong and you, PCGS/NGC (?), and I o_Oare correct as Very Fine is the commercial value that I think they will grade it. :D

Hey @Insider, I finally got my answer from PCGS . . . I don't have the coin back yet . . . Just my grades on-line. It's supposed to ship tomorrow, so I should have the coin back on Monday. I'll post photos when it returns . . . Mike.

I'm going to venture a guess at VF30.

My 1809 above graded PCGS XF45, @Insider. Still think mine is better? .

    @ToughCOINS

Glad you accepted the challenge. It should be educational. Send me the address to send the check. I'll need to go back and read this thread this weekend as I cannot remember the coin. One month turnaround - it's no wonder I forgot. IMHO, one month to have a coin graded is disgraceful!

Anyway, please just post the grade today as it will be more meaningful as I read the thread this weekend. Don't forget to PM your address.

@C-B-D I'll reply after I read the thread.

The 1873-CC Arrows Seated Half Dollar graded VF35 at PCGS (Cert no. 34285344 ) . I expected VF30, and am pleasantly surprised.

Don't worry about the grading fee . . . maybe you can buy me lunch at a show sometime.

Please send my comment to the person that sent you.

Let the person who’s opinion this is know that I reread this about 4 times and still don’t know what they mean by it. We buy the coin and not the holder so ignore the holder and pay VF20 but it’s actually correct at F15 because...

I still think it's a VF25... or 30. But to get a 35 you gotta be darn nice. It is a super original, though!

I looked at a bunch of them the other night and the majority of 35's had all the letters of liberty clearly defined. Maybe the rarity/CC helped there. Awesome coin either way.

Grade the whole coin not micro grade one spot. But on that same note look at all the letters. Do you really think a single letter wore off in the center while the two edge letters are basically untouched?

Was just an observation, but thanks for saying that because I incorrectly thought the shield was a main high point on these.

On the 20c pieces it is. For whatever reason they did those different with the liberty being raised.
