Great find! Just four years too early! What sort of signal range on your meter? The US half dimes I've found were all rather "pulltabby" signals, and interestingly shallow in the ground - like grassroots depth. I guess those small coins being lighter, they're a bit less prone to sink into the soil.
Daggumitt! I wasn't even considering the potential numismatic value. It came in somewhere around an Indian head cent and what I call "no telling but hopefully, Gold!" (lol) That's one of the smallest silvers I've dug and I wasn't expecting it at all. A very pleasant surprise to see it emerge from the dirt!
picked up a rather ugly 5 Francs. it was super cheap and I needed the "B" mm. also made a purchase from... I love that copper thanks!
Picked up a couple of Commemorative coins yesterday 1964 Japan 1000 Yen Summer Olympics Commemorative coin. 1966 Jersey 5 Shillings. 900th Anniversary of the Battle of Hastings Commemorative coins. Never heard of the country of "Jersey" before yesterday when I saw this coin.
Awaiting arrival of these coins. Let the Sun shine! I really love the old Copper coins. The design on the Silver Latvian coin is super neat too.
Just sent 4 silver 1970 coins from the Bahamas to P.C.G.S. for grading. Two proofs $1, $2 also two M.S. $1 , $5 they are all beautiful high grade coins. I hope that the grader sees it the same way that I do. Will try to post photos on the return of my coins.
Dues anyone collect pre-decimal Fiji pennies & half pennies? Just asking, trying to put together a set 1934-1968.
Added 4 more to my US Minted World Coin set. Well circulated, but they fill their spots nicely. This next one has a pretty low mintage of 100,000 according to Numista. Does that make this a "Key" date for the series?
Coins I received as a gift from a forum member! I have the obverses reverses mixed around (reverse is mosque/vase) but a 1993(left one)/1992 Egyptian 25/10/and 5 piastres.
I celebrated my 65th Birthday last week and my wife asked me what I wanted. She won't purchase any coins for me, a lesson she learned a long time ago, so I showed her what I wanted. One of the coins had not been released yet so I had to wait few days. Finally they all came in today. I just found these 3 Victoria tokens hiding in a box containing a Queen Elizabeth II coronation medal which was given to me as a gift by a generous seller in England a couple years ago. I had no idea the other 3 coins were in there.
Stuttgart. Not a rare mint mark, but still far more scarce than Berlin. I won't argue about the grade, though it was the overall appearance of the coin that attracted me. Original, with even color and just a light smattering of marks on the Zeppelin. I generally prefer coins with luster, and consider an MS63 with nice eye appeal to be vastly superior to a blotchy toned MS64 any day of the week.
The first of these, as it states, is a "model" coin - ie someone trying out designs for putative new coins, however they were often made in much larger quantities and sold as toy money for children to play with. The second and third are both satirical tokens used as gambling tokens. The third is known as a "Cumberland Jack" and records the Duke of Cumberland taking the title of Elector of Hannover and moving there, which was very unpopular at the time. (His descendents ended up on the opposite side during WWI as a result.) The second probably dates from the same period - I assume the Eagle motif is German. This sort of exonumia seems to be very common here in the UK and turns up in most job lots of coins. There are endless variations of dates and styles and there are collectors, though not many, and the prices consequently remain very low. Hence a regular UK dealer would be happy to give a few away as gifts!
