I guess that's wrong since I got an email last month saying something like 62% of my coins were purchased on a mobile device.
I successfully changed one of my listings (eBay 112599239851) before leaving for work this morning, just to be sure I knew what was involved in changing the remainder. It involved little time, so I figured I could do the rest during my lunch break. Well, I logged on at noon, went to my changed listing (112599239851) to copy the change and begin pasting it into my other listings, only to discover that the listing had apparently been deleted by eBay. Flustered at the recent deletion, I picked another listing to change (eBay 122724125239), went and found the HTML code to add, and revised that listing. That did not work . . . in fact, that listing was no longer "up" after the change. Then, 10 minutes passed as I tended to another matter until I came back to the task at hand. Curiously, both listings are "up", but when I try to view 112599239851 from my Seller Hub, it appears deleted . . . I'm dumbfounded. It appears as though buyers should be able to open my listings and view them, even though OI cannot do so for what looks like about 15 from my Seller Hub. Hopefully, eBay gets this squared away . . . they're getting more of my business than they are earning.
Y'know, it's frustrating when you post things which give me reason to look at your listings. I would buy half your stock if I had the disposable income. As it is, you have one coin that I'm having a really hard time keeping my hands off of, and it might have to be my Christmas present for myself. Your listings appear normally to me on Mobile. I have them open on both desktop and phone as we speak, for comparison.
Thank you so much for posting this. My sales plummeted recently. I thought i was just terrible at pricing! Now off to do my listings one by one... I feel bad for people who have more than 50 listings!
This tendency for ebay and others to move towards "mobile devices" is frustrating since I use my "mobile device" mainly for phone calls and NEVER buy stuff online with it primarily because, should it be stolen, I don't want to be forced into going through all the dancing that will be needed to update passwords and userids. I know little about cell phones but I DO know that using them as a tool for buying stuff is just a stolen disaster away. BTW, I checked my listings and it said: "Viewport meta tag incorrect or missing" which is meaningless to me. It appeared to display ok but I had ebay add the tag anyway. Before: After:
I'm glad to know the listings look normal on both devices Dave, thank you. No need to tell me what's drawing your attention . . . just stop by my table in Baltimore next month and you can put your hands on (visit with) the coin for free. - Mike
this just recently went into effect, but it could be wrong, I just heard about this mobile friendly thing last night.
Thanks for the posting on this issue. I checked my listings and none were mobile friendly, no wonder my sales have been off. I followed the instructions posted here and was able to correct my listings one at a time, but with 250 listings that was going to be a task. So I contacted eBay and learned that their bulk edit and replace feature would work providing you copied the item description text from a corrected listing in the HTML format and pasted it into the bulk editing field in HTML format before I switched to the text format. That corrected all of my listings in short order. Just copying the corrected item description text from a listing with text format showing failed to capture the meta data that shows up above the text only when you select the HTML format. One more note, for listings ending within a day the item description field cannot be changed.
Thank you for posting this. Eh, phooey. I tried using that "mobile friendly checker", but the "analyzer" only runs up to 60%, and then the page stops. It shows a refresh symbol at the top of the page. But that does nothing. I was (am) concerned, because I listed a bunch of stuff at 65c starts with no reserve, and while it's cheap stuff - even junk in some cases - I'm gonna be doing a lot more "giveaways" than intended, with free shipping to boot! I've got 65c "starter" bids on a lot of stuff, but most auctions have no other movement five days in. For example, I listed a low grade Seated quarter more than 24 hours ago with a 65c start and free shipping - way below melt - and haven't gotten a single bid on it yet. It's a junky coin, but usually it would have at least two or three bids by now. What concerns me is that I'm doing some things I didn't realize were no-nos. I have HTML links in my descriptions (to Krause catalog data for the world coins), and furthermore I put my images into the descriptions in addition to using the eBay picture hosting. I have never trusted eBay's picture hosting- the javascript or whatever never used to work properly for me half the time when I was browsing other people's auctions. So I've always put a redundant set of images into the descriptions of my own listings (the same pictures, but hosted on another site). I just picked up my phone and used the eBay app to find one of my auctions (making sure I was logged off of my eBay account), and it looked OK, but now I'm nervous. Amusingly, one item has now surpassed the price I was asking for it here on CT, but that's an exception to the rule. Most if not all of the rest are doing very poorly, though they're in that period I always called the "mid auction doldrums". So I don't know if I'm losing visibility or not?
Thanks for posting this. All but one of my listings were "bad" according to the fixer, but it was a quick fix. Hopefully this will give everything a boost.
all my listings on Ebay are available on all devices, I think..I list, delete, revise and everything else on my phone, tablet, etc..agree sales are down, but don't know what to attribute it to...unk
Me too. Nowadays I only have a handful of listings, so quick & easy to fix: In "edit" mode, scroll down to "Item description"... look to the right side, click "New! Mobile-friendly checker".
I sell primarily World coins, so unsurprisingly, I have in the past sold a lot of stuff overseas. But I often go months without listing anything, so each time I do, I forget certain things (since eBay is never the same when I return from a hiatus). This time I think I shot myself in the foot by clicking their Global Shipping option. This is where one ships the item to their distribution center in Kentucky and they ship it overseas and handle all the customs forms and such. Which sounds grand, but... Here's how I think that was a mistake. For this last round of auctions, I chose to offer free worldwide shipping. (Yeah, I know- nuts, right? Nobody else does that. But it has been worthwhile to me in the past because it attracts more foreign bidders, and more bidders mean bidding wars, which are great for a seller. And on cheaper World coins I have next to nothing in, it has been worth the risk in the past.) However, what I did not realize (remember) was that though I had set my Worldwide shipping price to $0.00 in this last round, eBay was tacking on extra fees without my knowledge, and showing it on the listings on their foreign sites. In retrospect, I should have realized this, but it was only when a Danish bidder pointed it out to me via some screenshots that I realized what was going on. That does not explain how I've had Seated Liberty quarters sell for below melt to US bidders, though. And I had to pay for free shipping for those. (They were low-end Seated quarters, but still...!) But my auction end times might've had something to do with that. Or this mobile-friendly stuff. Who knows.
You are crazy for offering free international shipping lol. Common lower values items have never really auctioned well on eBay without setting an acceptable starting price which is probably what happened to the quarters. But also remember that the site reserves the right to not show your listings in searches by buyers even if your item is exactly what they are looking for. https://community.ebay.com/t5/Archi...Hide-Listings-in-Search-Results/td-p/17389149 As far as I know they haven't made a change to that policy. I know sellers on coin forums (even big sellers) have reported that listings don't always show up when they look for them on their buyers account.
I didn't know this. This is insane if it is all encompassing, but I suspect this only applies to the "Best Match" search default. So if you move to "Newly Listed" then all listings would appear. But yes, Best Match is a strange mix of newly listed items, Ending Soonest items, and it is absolutely COVERED in listings from mega sellers. (David Lawrence, GSC, eternitycoin, etc). I never use best match.
