I know most people on here HATE this kind of stuff, but I just noticed these on Craigslist in my area
If done on common dates that were otherwise non collectable (damaged) I've never had a problem with that. But on perfectly good gold coins...ouch.
I always hated seeing a nice silver dollar Morgan or Peace that looked great on the obverse and then you turn it over and it's just encrusted with glue and crap or maybe from being soldered onto a belt buckle.
I used to wear cufflinks everyday, and those are some of the best coin cufflinks ive seen, especially the wheat cent ones.
Very nice, whatever the finish. I heard Canada was starting to use a Rhodium finish on some new coins, but I think it is rather a flat black look. I'll guess these were enameled and looks like they did a nice job.
What about if it was already "ruined" 100, 200, or more years ago? I can see how some folks cringe with modern work, but as to the older stuff, what was done is done, is the way I look at it.
