This is a twist on the tread for posting your newest acquisition. This is the first coin I purchased about fifty years ago as a Christmas gift for my father who NEVER purchased a coin. He plucked them out of circulation. Anyway, it has returned to me along with priceless memories. This was purchased from the Foley's Department store in Downtown Houston where the family traditionally shopped for Christmas. They had a coin department which moved from the tenth to the twelvth floors from year to year. This coin was on a rack of average circulated coins. I overpaid at the time and the coin is probably worth less than the packaging even today.
Don't have a photo on me. But a 1887 Indian Head Cent at the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum in Cody Wyoming. Still have it, that was about 10+ years ago.
Bought a 2002 Proof set at a coin show along with wheat cents and a few foreign coins including Ukrainian and Chinese money
Its amazing how this is a hobby that you don't ever get too old for. You can do this hobby till the day you die.
That's my intent. I figure I'll pass on before my wife. I've got reasonable records and my wife knows who to contact if she wants to cash the collection in.
I like that you said this is a hobby that you can do until you die. But then what...? I have been collecting since the early '60s and now at 69 years old I wonder who will be interested in my coins. Recently I noticed my 10 year old granddaughter has been interested in what I do with my coins. She asks a lot of good questions about what I am doing and helps me look for coins. So we started putting together a Lincoln cent book from 1959 to current. It is exciting for me to see her interest in coins and I remember when I started and never got discouraged. I wonder what she sees in my coins but I know it is not "candy money". She does not see the coins as something to spend. I think she is beginning to see history.

Hard to believe that it was only 2 years ago that I got back into coins. I must have over 3000 coins now. At first I regretted selling a few real old coins I had, so I bought some on ebay to replace them. Then I kind of got carried away, and here I am, a nearly full blown coin nut. I see I bought this 1793 Utrecht duit on 28 October 2015.
