I'm so glad to hear from you, TIF! I've been worried. I can't even begin to imagine what you're going through. Good for you for not giving hope! All the best as you move forward. I hope that the recovery goes quickly and smoothly! Erin
Great coin @TIF - Is there anything we can do to help. I'd even ship my generator if it was possible to get it there. Since helping that way is not an option, what is?
@TIF, I missed and miss you. So glad you survived those storms and that you have a place to stay. TIF, I saw a sofa you made. It was spectacular. I get the impression you can do anything! You are an inspiration. Can you rig up a little solar power station?
That’s intense and extremely scary! Counting my blessings to be living on a hurricane-free island even as I hope for recovery efforts in the USVIs to go as swiftly and smoothly as possible. Keep strong and safe! Oh, and that Domna is excellent... what a fantastic reverse scene! I’ll share a building-of-the-city coin that seems apt under the circumstances. (This one made it off your island with some time to spare .) ELAGABALUS AE28. 12.6g, 28mm. TYRE, Phoenicia, circa AD 218-222. Rouvier 2375; BMC 409; Price & Trell 748 (for rev. type). O: [IMP CAES] M AV ANTONIN[VS AVG], laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. R: [TVRIORVM], Dido overseeing the building of Carthage; she stands on the right, holding a rule and a transverse sceptre, facing left towards an arched city gate flanked by two towers, palm tree to her right; above the gate a mason works; below, a worker digs with a pick, legend [∆ƐI-∆Ω] to his left and right; murex shell in upper field. So glad you're ok TIF! Man, that video of the hurricane was unbelievable. I'm glad you cool new coin made it! Love that cool little Cupid dude also! Man, say what you will about the midwest...we don't get category 5 hurricanes. Hey, at least you weren't in Cave Creek! Keep us posted!
It's great to hear from you. Everyone on the site was getting concerned about your absence. It's definitely like a little family here. Anyways after watching that video, and hearing your story, no more complaints from me about the three day power loss along with trees down and various debris all over my yard from Irma as it rolled over Orlando. We were lucky.
Glad to hear you are OK after the two storms. I have a screen saver on my main pc of Charlott Amalie . As in my youth I spent a lot of time in the islands. St.Thomas,St.Croix,and John. As well other land falls though out the Caribbean. I said to my wife we may never see the islands as we have in the past. Mega's bay being one of my favorite spots on earth. After seeing how bad the island was damage ,I truly appreciate seeing and experiencing my time on the islands. To those of you whom never had the opportunity to see and experience these little gems in the Caribbean I hope one day you will. To the people who these storms have effected I hope for all speedy recovery to some sort of normal life.
@TIF, thanks for letting us know you are ok. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this! I cannot imagine what it was like to go through category 5 Irma; I hope you were not alone. I went through Andrew, but Irma was much, much, worse. I am glad you left during Maria and are safe. In 2005, the year of the 3 hurricanes, we lost our roof, most of the contents of the 2nd floor, 8" of standing water on 1st floor, no electricity for 2 weeks, every single item of clothing we owned got wet and has to be washed (by hand), etc. -- so I know a bit about the horror you are living through. What you are going through is no fun. But you are tough and I know you will get through this. It's going to take time, but I am sure you can repair the damage to your condo. Please take care of your health. All that standing water and mold absolutely everywhere can really make you sick. And the smell is awful! Glad to hear you are using a respirator and rain boots, very smart. It's good that you have somewhere you can spend a few hours a day in air conditioning and running water. Great new coin! I am glad to hear your coins and coin books made it through the storms with no damage. Hang in there, you can do this!
Wishing for you the power of Jove much sooner than you expect. (Maybe Ides's suggestion could make it happen sooner?) Maximianus antoninianus, issued 285-6, Rome mint, 7th officina. Jupiter standing left holding thunderbolt & sceptre:
Glad you're OK. Being a Katrina veteran, I'll offer this: things can and will be replaced. Wish you Godspeed in getting things back to normal.
Very nice to read news about you, @TIF! I hope that things get better soon. Life goes on! Just keep walking!
Just to put a smile on your face @TIF, the only thing I can pile on with here is a Greek 2 euros regular coin featuring Europe as on your beautiful example : Take care Q
Everywhere has it's 'thing'. Today the news is filled with the fires in California where they would give anything for a few inches of the rain that Texas and the islands could have spared. I am blessed to live where we have small (plaster crackers) earthquakes, no sinkholes, occasional tired hurricanes and minor tornadoes, snow usually measured in inches and power that usually comes back on a day or so after it goes out. Boring is good. I am thankful you survived and can still even have enough energy left over to keep your many friends here from worrying.
WOW, the 12" of snow here looks pretty calm compared to the storms you have had to endure. The best of luck to you. What was the time frame the video included?
