I have a 1959 D penny that looks gold I bought it a few years ago and the guy told me that is how it was made.I was wondering if it was fake.:eating:
Wonder no more - it's as genuine as the nine-dollar bill I carry around. It was probably plated by a high school chemistry student.
It could be gold plated. I have an electroplating kit for car emblems, but it works just as well on coins.
Yes, but one also needs an electrolytic solution. It's my understanding that varying additives to the solution can help/affect the actual plating process. Finding a kit would skip a portion of the learning curve (for a price of course).
If I remember right the kit was around $120.00 and included the tools needed and a small supply of the chemicals and some gold paste for plating.
