I look at coin chat sites like a book that is continuously being written. Do I profit from reading a book? No, not directly, but in the long run I benefit greatly. My donations to these sites aren't monetary either, but rather contributions of time & personal knowledge.
By reading a book, of course, you don't profit, at least, directly and in short term. But, when you write a book, like any book author does, you do profit or you aim at doing some profit. Otherwise, you lose money. However, this is not valid for everybody. For example, some (rare) people write books as "spending money" rather than to support their living costs as income, but, they aim to do some other kinds of profits such as self-enjoyments etc. Difference between writing on such forums and writing the books is, as you said, web forum is like book a book continuously being written and that book is being written by the public. So, who will pay for our all these writings here? Nobody. So, yes, this internet medium is something different than conventional books. However, there is a cost of this electronic book (webhosting etc etc) and domain/host owner is requesting people here to share this cost by becoming "Supporters" and since this is also his income he and admin&mods who spent extra efforts may make some profits as well. There is nothing wrong with all these. But, after all, what book are we the public writing here? I guess, this is our main question.
Erol, you expect members to take you at face value, but you persist in thinking that certain people such as myself and other mods makes monetary gains from my service. I respect your right of thinking such, and in return, I am sure you don't mind me having the same right of thinking you are a fraud as well as deficient in thinking and logic ability. You seek no coin information, you are just suffering from Logorrhea.
http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/ In this world, some people do behave altruistically. I believe you may be thinking of Ferenginar.
Either you don't know English or you do this intentionally. I guess, it is the latter. What you did again was to differentiate/disintegrate a (my) post with an integrity into parts and pick a part, a sentence, and mis-read/understand. And, after your disintegration, you are missing the integrity and claiming that my post is incomprehensible. Ok, lets re-quote the part of my post you picked: Didn't you see "may" here? I didn't say "you do make" or "you should not make". Should I have said "you should make"? These forms mean putting my nose into your business and it is not upto me. What I said by "you MAY make (profit)" is that "you can do it, now or later in the future" and if you do it, there is nothing wrong with it. So, that I said with "may" is about probability related to the future rather than about the current stiuation/status of whether you are making money or not. (I guess, the majority of people viewing/reading here have already got the integrity in my previous post correctly.) Also, my that post was not specifically about you personals, it was about how things on the internet forum go, was a generalization. No need to be so touchy.
"This" is not "Internet". This is a specific site, hosted and supported and financed by Peter, with occasional donations from some of its participants. "Am I bugging you yet? Am I bugging you yet? How about now? Geeze, don't be so sensitive!"
So, the boss here is Peter, right? Then, let himself speak if there is any issue here. This thread is a little different than all other threads on the forum because this thread is about "money" rather than "coin". Some participants ("Supporters") too might have paid money and they too can act like a boss, however, those who are not "Supporters" can't/shouldn't do that. But, they are doing. For example. @BooksB4Coins is not a paid member, not a "Supporter", but, he is saying "Go Away" to me. Does he have a right to say this? Ha, yes, he can consider himself a contributer to the forum. So what? Am I not doing any contribution? I might have been seen not doing any contribution, and it is true that I'm not doing much contribution about the coin in conventional way and this is why I have only one thread, "coin with/out numeral" thread here and more than 90% of my posts are in that thread and that may make their works of moderators too easier. Besides that banning Erol is easy, just a click away and deleting Erol's posts too is easy, deleting that "coin with/out" thread is just a click away without causing any "porosity" in the forum. See, Erol is thoughtful enough. By the way, just look at this thread in which most of my remaining posts in 10% are posted here. This thread, started by OP 12 years ago, was almost a dead thread, there was no any reply and it was Erol who replied first after 12 years and now, see, there are 90 posts and the thread is on the first page of this forum. Is the boss Peter (and/or bosses "Supporters") unhappy to see this "Support Coin Talk" thread on this first page here? (If I were a mod or admin, I'd pin/fix this thread on top of page, but, anyway, it is none of my business.) If my reply in this thread was not good, then, deleting my post here as well is easy, a click away, so close. As for "this is internet or a specific website owned by someone", I can also question whose internet is and it may result in a big discussion. Anywa, lets not discuss about this, which is a broad topic. As last, to keep this thread too connected to the coin, I'll say this: This "Support Coin Talk" thread is about $1.00 while "Coin with/out numeral" thread is about "$0.01... All other threads on this forum is in between these "$1.00" and "$0.01". I guess everybody understood what I meant by these. Is there any fight between these two, $1.00 and $0.01? (Ok, this can be discussed in "$0.01" thread, i.e., in "coin with/out numerals" thread which is more suitable place to talk on such things.)
Your writing style is such that few care to try to read it. It comes off like a 10 year old trying to impress others. I'm sure you can do better.
Did you have to join in order to spew your drivel? Yes, you did, so it's not quite "public" now, is it? And you're right; I'm not a supporter, but I am one of those supposedly nonexistent individuals who come here to give, and do so without taking anything of personal value away from it.
I am like 10 years old? Well, there are 6 years ahead of me, to be able to post like this OP posted by a 16 years old then which people haven't cared about, there was no any reply to (t)his post. ( @ldhair , you too, try to find another reason . Or, just stop personal talk here and stay on topic of the post of OP, not on Erol.)
I will get back on topic. This site is worth the support of it's members and it comes in many ways. It's not about money. It's about the help that is given to both the new and old in the hobby. Folks here help dig for the correct answers to others questions and have fun doing it. All we are ask to do is to follow the rules. Peter, Doug and the mods do a great job of keeping this site fun. Those that only come here to create problems are just a poor excuse for a human being.
Absolutely. I come here mostly to feed my curiosity. Sometimes for advice, both giving and receiving. And sometimes even to brag. If you're focused only on economics, though, I can absolutely promise that the advice I've gotten here has saved me more money than all the membership contributions I've made.
