I stopped at 7 banks tonight, but thanks to the bank holiday coming up Monday the lines at 2 of them were 12 people long so I left those 2.

5 banks yielded $30 in CWR halves, $3.50 in loose halves, $50 in MWR halves and 1 ike. The CWRs had several mid-80's BU coins, the loose were trashy, the MWRs had a single 87S Cu-Ni clad impaired proof, and the ike was common circulated...not a total skunk, but close.

Vintage, my teller friend will order my 6 boxes of halves to arrive 2 days before I arrive, so it's all good! She also doesn't order halves for anyone else, literally.

She takes good care of me.

Just finished a $500 box of MWR halves, Loomis. No silver but did find some decent stuff anyway.

    88D, 90D (x2), 90P (x3), 01D, and 01P -- all look like they just came out of a mint set.

02P (x2), 02D, 03P, 04D, 05P, 09D, 10D, 16D -- NIFC. All but the 16D are awesome. The 16D is quite banged up so it's been floating around in a bag or bin for some time.

it is interesting to me that so many NIFC halves can be found in a single box. Since they are only available in mint sets or rolls/bags from the mint, even if we assume that some people broke up mint sets and spent them, that doesn't seem to explain the frequency. And I've seen many roll posters mention finding them very often. So if they're coming from mint rolls/bags, are collectors dumping them into circulation? Can't see that happening as they were bought at well over face and that would be a financial loss to the collectors.

Is it possible that after the sell period for the bags/rolls expired, the mint is dumping them into circulation just to free up storage room for more inventory space? Just wondering....

I'll start the next box sometime next week and see what I can discover in it.

If the mint sold new halves individually there'd be a lot less found in circulation. Since they're only available in 2 roll sets (0.82/coin) or 200 coin bags (0.70/coin), collectors must buy in quantity to keep all the holes in their sets filled. There's not really much premium for NIFC halves, most dealers don't even want them, and it ties up a lot of space and money for collectors to keep what they don't need. Other than putting the effort into listing on eBay and dealing with seller fees, papal fees, and shipping costs, the easiest way to deal with the surplus is getting face value.
I used to save all the NIFC's I found until I realized all this, and that there are millions of them still out there in as good or better condition than what I can find. The best ones were hand picked before the rest got put into circulation, only to get more damaged.

For someone looking to complete their date/mint sets, seems like it would be cheaper to just buy the mint sets and pull out the single examples of each. No waste. But then we wouldn't be able to find the NIFC's after the fact.

For a single set, I agree. If they're doing multiple sets or know family members or friends also building sets, maybe not.

Pennies don't have the panache of halves.
I have been plugging away on Loomis rolls.
Found a beautiful 95P . Have seen plenty of decent copper.
The banks are closed tomorrow. So I'll do 10 rolls today and 10 tomorrow.

Box of halves yielded one 40%er. I am on a crappy run as out of 12 boxes I have got only 3 40%ers. No long skunk streak but still pretty bad.

@Bman33 Very true! I went through over a month like that and was almost ready to give it up, but things turned around dramatically the last couple of weeks.

The only box of halves I've searched that yielded more Franklin's than silver Kennedy's!
