Hello all, I have recently sent a coin to Leroy Van Allen and he confirmed it is a VAM discovery coin. He provided a signed letter including description of the VAM and a picture of the Relevent parts of the coin I sent the coin and letter to ANACS and just received it back. They Graded it 1892-s AU50 VAM-10 Discovery PC Cleaned I do not collect VAMs, and would like to sell it. So my question. Whats it worth and where and how do I sell it. Thanks for the input in advance. Corey
coolstuff, Congratulations on the new VAM discovery! Finding VAM's is extremely difficult in the Coin Collecting World that we now live in and to find a new discovery is a giant feat! Go West young man or in other words, you may want to try selling it on eBay! Also, there are quite a few Coin Dealers on the web that deal in VAM's and they may offer you a fair price for the coin. You might try www.ashmore.com or www.rjrc.com and email them what you have for sale and see what they say. Good luck! Frank
Jerome, VAM stands for Van Allen-Marris Variety which is used to designate a Variety number to Morgan and Peace Dollars with certain errors! The designation was created (founded) by Leroy Van Allen who is still alive and attributing VAM's and George Marris who is deceased. To meet the criteria for a VAM, a Morgan or Peace Dollar has to have a significant error on it such as being a Doubled Die, having a strong Die Clash(es) or Counter-Die Clash(es) that not always but usually involves a Clashed or Counter Clash of a Letter in the Legend or Motto or a Number in the Date, Die Breaks, numerous Die Cracks, strong Die Gouges and strong Die Polish or Grind marks on a coin. Thanks, any idea on its value? Hi, Thanks for the information, Does anyone have any idea as to its value Corey
I've seen discovery VAMs go for several hundred dollars even up to $2,000 depending on who wants it the most. Take Care Ben
One small correction, it is George Mallis, not Marris. It's only worth what someone is willing to pay. Discovery VAMs are an enigma to me. They are nice for the discoverer but are not really relevant to anyone else. Only the top 100 and Hot 50 are graded by PCGS for the registry, and since your coin is cleaned..........I just don't know. I would throw it on eBay and see what happens. Good luck!!
