A really hammered business strike. This is going to sound strange, but the stars are almost too complete to be a proof. Almost every CBH proof that I've ever seen has incomplete stars on the obverse.
Check out this one - the reverse is almost the same with the lettering and rim issues on the right reverse....even the A is filled in... https://m.ebay.com/itm/1829-50C-CAP...036588?hash=item5d73a33dec:g:ge0AAOSwutFZhgOG
You can always see what you want to see, but it does not take a genius to tell that this coin and your coin were struck from two different dies pairs.
I don’t disagree - just struck by the strike Haven’t seen another one that strong...mine not the eBay...
Here are some scans - no evidence of cleaning - just some toning form a little manila coin holder still a lot of luster and the fields are smooth grades?
Absolutely no cleaning scratches at all on the fields or anywhere...I’ll see if I can get better pics
That's quite a difference in the 2 sets of photos. I am not saying if it is cleaned or not. But I am suspicious of a 200 year old coin that is so clean. Of course it could have been kept in collections for 150+ years. Are you going to send it in for grading?
very bright and no "skin" so dipped. While very little wear I see much less luster on the obv than I would expect, leading me to think it has been cleaned, at least on the obverse. Inspection with a point source light (LED, xenon/krypton bulb) would tell. I don't know if it would straight grade or not.
